An unsubstantiated claim of sexual assault in high school from a registered Democrat on the eve of SCOTUS confirmation? The Stanford professor says it derailed her?
Disclaimer: I didn’t read the entire article so perhaps there is more to it than that? This just seems so thinly veiled and absurd.

the issue of Garland not being taken up in an election year (Biden-rule as many would say) is not at all related to a claim of sexual abuse during high school and why it wasn't relevant to a position on the court of appeals.

Something just doesn't add up here....
Sep 17, 2018, 12:32 PM

she sent a letter to her rep in HOR in early July and then sent a letter to Feinstein on July 30. All the while wishing to remain anonymous. All dems on the committee are told about the letter. She remains anonymous, and the letter is put in Kavanaugh's file and DOJ takes no action (I think). Then the week of his confirmation vote, she comes public, allegedly because the story was leaked last week.
It just doesn't seem to add up to me.

his reputation was not assassinated, he was not drug through the mud, every action of his life was not scrutinized.
He is just as successful and happy as he was before the nomination.
So what happens when Ginsberg or another liberal croaks in the next year?

Seems there would be some sort of corroborating evidence. Also it seems that individuals who sexually assault women rarely do it one time - meaning there should be additional cases if true.

The accusation must be taken seriously and investigated. If no evidence is found to corroborate or substantiate, then I would personally not let it affect my vote of confirmation, if I had one.
There is no reason to be in a big hurry. Investigate the claim as efficiently as possible, then address the confirmation based on the results of the investigation.

with the hope of getting a Democrat majority in the Senate and voting down this nominee.
I am not sure how you can say there is no hurry.
This whole thing is so blatant and unapologetically political. Honestly, an alleged, unsubstantiated claim of sexual assault from a California academic Democrat, kept quiet until his SCOTUS nomination and then kept quiet by the only Senator, a blatantly partisan one, who was given the information.
The whole thing is an embarrassment and a joke.

whoever is involved in it, for sure. It would hurt everyone, especially legitimate victims of abuse.
Unfortunately, the most likely result of the investigation is probably an inability to prove or disprove, which would leave everyone to just make a decision. As I said, unless it is substantiated, I would vote to confirm.

in which case no one would even investigate for criminal prosecution. Which, again, is why she went to a VERY partisan Senator during his confirmation hearing...and not...you know...the police.
Anyway, I did a quick review and it looks like at best it would be misdemeanor sexual assault, which is long past the SoL (and ticking, since again, she hasn’t reported a crime to the authorities). Maybe is she uses that “I thought he might kill me” line it could bump up? I don’t know the law well enough to say.
