I know a lot of people think the list is too subjective

and not indicative of the strength of a school but I was at Clemson when we were making the push and at USC Law School when the law school fell out of the top 100 and let me tell you, people care A LOT when you're falling in the rankings. It was a #### storm.
Sure it's fairly subjective--every list is--but Clemson is definitely one of the top public institutions in the country. No doubt about that.

In previous years this read "Its setting is rural"
I moved to Columbia from Atlanta when I was a senior in HS 25 years ago.
I choose to attend Clemson University without having grown-up a Clemson fan.
Everyone I meet in Columbia said Clemson was so rural and isolated.
It seemed weird since Columbia is just a speck on the map compared to Atlanta.

If it's not paved over for as far as the eye can see, it's "rural". That place is a concrete jungle (and a heat sink) and nothing more.
