Crowd.

No vaccine. What is you limit on when this ends? Most the time the answer is “when there is a vaccine”. So hypothetically, no vaccine, what is the limit? People won’t do this for life, I want to know the limit. What is your limit to this with no vaccine?

Ill wear a mask and avoid large gatherings until the transmission rate drops. Right now it seems less safe than when we were on stay at home orders.

Protect the wearer or the non-wearer from Covid - or even particles the size of Covid. Just one.

As I saw a scientist write, wearing a cloth mask to prevent Covid transmission is like using chain link fence on your “screened” porch to keep out mosquitos.

It’s frustrating to see how divided this country has gotten over the last 3 years and it is getting worse at an exponential rate. Trump just pours gasoline on the fire and I don’t get it. Leaders in my life have brought teams together and made them stronger not weaker. Gotten the most out of each other. I just don’t see that with Trump and I don’t understand how that can be seen in a different light.

Regardless we still need to treat each other as we wish to be treated and I did not do that. Continuing the hate is as bad as creating the hate itself. Again I apologize.

We have been heading toward dictatorship at least since Truman. Nukes and Cold War made it necessary for one person to make decisions quickly. Fast forward to Bush and Obama. Congress is almost just for show now. Trump has accelerated this. We need a centrist who promotes unity and follows Constitution. If such a person exists, he/she would never win.

Fear not. A liberal counterweight to Trump will emerge to continue the slide. If history serves, we probably have a couple more decades before historians will us label dictatorship. The power struggle usually gets pretty violent is the problem.

It's funny in that we are almost all united in knowing we are on/have been on a bad track in this country. The odds of us coming together to save it have to be near zero.

And now they’re using Covid to kill the economy to keep Trump from being elected. This is not paranoia - Dems are on record planning to impeach him from the time he took office and CNN is openly gleeful about Covid deaths.

I didn’t vote for Trump last time but definitely will this time. Not because I like him but because he’s a lot better than supporting the folks supporting race riots, statute toppling, building graffiti and a BLM organization with a Marxist agenda.

I still support President Trump because he is the only option we have that is not a card carrying member of the career political elite that have been running our country off a globalist cliff for the last 30 years.

I like having a President that loves America and proudly tells the world it will be "America First" when dealing with us. I like having a President that doesn't think our founding is illegitimate or that we are an evil nation. I like having a President that doesn't believe we must apologize and bow our head to the rest of the world for our history or our greatness. I like having a President that doesn't constantly feed us politically correct sound bites that mean nothing. I like having a President that actually tells you what he thinks - even if it pisses some people off. I like having a President that refuses to cower in the corner when attacked by his political opponents and the media.

I also happen to like most of President Trump's policy positions but here are a few in particular:

1. Massive cutting of government regulations that kill small businesses.

2. Doing everything he can to get us out of our current military entanglements in the middle east.

3. Negotiating new trade deals that are more favorable to the USA with Canada, Mexico, Europe and especially China.

4. Doing everything within his power (because Congress is no help) to stop illegal immigration.

5. Recognizes China as the biggest threat to the USA and is not afraid to go after them through tariff's and other means.

6. Creating incentives for manufacturing things in the USA. (Prior to COVID-19 US Factories were expanding at a 13 year high)

7. Instituted policies and cut regulations that have allowed the USA to be 95% energy independent and has put the US on track to be a net energy exporter by 2022.

8. His staunch support of the 2nd Amendment.

9. His nomination of originalist and/or strict Constitutionalist Judges to the Supreme and Federal courts.

10. His overall economic philosophy produced the best US economy for all Americans (jobs, wages, and stock market) in over 50 years until the COVID-19 pandemic shutdowns. Given the chance, he will do it again after COVID-19.

I'm willing to bet there will be a vaccine available within one year. Phase 3 trials are to begin in July. How effective the vaccine will be is another story especially in the elderly. The reason cases are soaring in SC is primarily due to younger folks congregating and many not wearing masks.More and more young people are getting infected and then passing it on to others. It is not Fake News that hospitalizations in SC due to COVID are rising at such a rate that Governor McMaster today stated that he may once again put a hold on elective surgeries. He also stated that he would not open sporting venues until progress is made on decreasing the spread of COVID. Henry McMaster is no lefty. At the time that he endorsed Trump in the Republican Primary in SC, McMaster was the highest ranking elective official to do so. Henry's all in on physical distancing, masks and hand hygiene.

I support anyone's right to NOT wear a seatbelt as not doing so only affects the person not wearing the seatbelt.I don't think there should be a law requiring one to wear a seat belt in fact. It's not smart, but it doesn't impact others. I acknowledge that most masks offer a modicum of protection for the wearer, but do protect others. I wore a surgical mask in the OR for decades not to protect me, but to protect the patient.

I support your right to not wear a mask, but would ask you to consider doing so to protect others. To deny that wearing a mask, maintaining physical distancing and using good hygiene is not based on science is laughable. If you choose not to wear a mask because you don't want to, I can accept that. I can't accept that anyone thinks this is some type of conspiracy.

For those who are inclined to think the recommended health measures are BS, I would suggest you read The Ghost Map by Steven Johnson. It is about Dr John Snow who figured out the cause of cholera. He died ridiculed by the medical establishment as his theory of fecal contamination being the cause was not accepted.Dr Snow based his theory on science. We've come a long way since then. I seriously doubt one can find an Infectious Disease specialist or Epidemiologist who thinks letting it rip is a wise move. If you want to get back to doing normal things sooner than later, be smart. I personally do want people to be able to have necessary surgeries and procedures performed as many of these cases while not urgent are important. I also want to see sports and in particular college football this Fall. Unless things change soon, we are going to delay getting back to where we all want to be. Elvis is on the way!! Until then, be considerate of others.

Very reasonable and considerate words.***

Maybe if you're driving alone, but in general this is false. Many front seat occupants are killed every year by back seat passengers not wearing seat belts. There's multiple studies showing a driver is more than twice as likely to be killed if the passenger behind them isn't wearing a seat belt.

I appreciate the comments re: seatbelts. I always wear them and insist that others in my vehicle do so too. You are absolutely correct that an unrestrained passenger poses a significant risk to others in the vehicle. The driver however has complete control of requiring others to wear a seatbelt. My point is that the community at large is not affected significantly by someone making a poor choice not to wear a seatbelt. I am pro seatbelt -100%, but I would not have made it a law if it were up to me. Tobacco usage and alcohol abuse certainly kill more people than unbelted passengers and massively contribute to health care costs, yet are legal as I think they should be. I am not pro tobacco or pro alcohol, but support leaving those choices up to people. I am 100% in favor of folks wearing masks to protect each other, but still would not mandate this. I honestly think the initiative was lost on masks when misinformation was given from public health officials and President Trump stated that masks were recommended, but that he wasn't going to wear one.He could have used his bully pulpit to encourage people to protect others. Now the whole issue has devolved into a political statement.

Again, you are dead on re: unrestrained passengers being a risk to others. Thanks for pointing that out.

There was a time I agreed with this and was pretty adamant about not wearing a seat belt until someone gave me a reason why I was wrong and convinced me that I should wear a seat belt. The idea we're only putting ourselves at risk falls apart when you consider the financial cost of accident injuries for those not wearing a seat belt and how that extra unnecessary cost drives up the price of auto insurance for everyone, including the person who didn't want to wear a seat belt and was injured.

Once I recognized the validity of that argument, I started wearing a seat belt.

I'm a pediatrician. Working in a mask all day, every day trying to avoid catching the virus and more importantly, avoid spreading it to my patients and their families. Wearing a mask in public places to avoid spreading it to others if I did stumble into it and don't know it. And there is the rub. Thousands of people have died from COVID19 already. Hundreds of physicians have died after putting themselves in harm's way trying to treat their patients. Many more will die if people take the approach of "I'm done with this". The percentage of positive tests in SC continues to rise which means that we truly do have more disease in our state rather than just more testing. Our hospital beds are being filled with far more patients with COVID19 (fact, not opinion). We don't have a vaccine yet. I'm hopeful that we will, particularly as a few are already in phase 3 testing. There is still so much that we don't know about this virus. But there are some things that we do know. Social distancing helps to curb the spread. Masks help to curb the spread. If we know that, why wouldn't we take those simple steps to protect each other and to protect our health care workforce.

Here's a link from the CDC. The cloth mask doesn't protect you. It protects the people near you from your cough, sneeze etc. Their masks protect you. The combination of both sides wearing masks has resulted in the lowest transmission of disease. It's not perfect, but it's the best that we've got right now and likely the best that we'll have for some time to come. As someone who is wearing a mask 10-12 hours a day every day trying my best to stay safe, I don't think it's too much to ask the folks coming into my office to wear a mask for the 30 minutes or so that they are in the building. (unless they are under 2 years old, in which case the mask can be a suffocation risk). After all, if my partners and I all get sick and can't work, then who is taking care of our patients? That's what keeps me up at night.

CDC also announced it estimates there have been ten times as many cases in this country than have been uncovered, so somewhere around 25 million people have it, or have already had it. That also means the mortality rate is much lower than we've thought, which should be getting alot of positive coverage. The media is too busy, however, acting like all of these new positives are going to be the end of us all even as the number of deaths continue to be way down and dropping. So disingenuous.

Question for the non mask wearing crowd.....How will you feel if someone close to you, probably an old person, dies and contact tracing shows you to be the likely source of the covid infection that led to the death of your friend or loved one?

There's no vaccine for rabies (at least for people). Do you go out and play with infected raccoons? Just do what you have to do, for as long as you have to do it. If that means we wear masks in public for 20 more years, I guess folks in Hong Kong have been doing it longer than that and they've managed.
