Where would SCU football be without Spurrier?

Mar 31, 2014, 3:40 PM

I don't think they'd have another high-profile coach if it weren't for Steve so I'm thinking right around .500.

How good would SCU football be if Spurrier never signed on?    [Results]

Similarly successful
Almost as good
a little better than bowl eligible
somewhere near .500
slightly worse than .500
2-4 wins
unable to beat anybody
Undefeated
their program would have been disbanded due to extreme recruiting violations

Spurrier Isn't GOD ---

With or without Spurrier we need to be bashing
their beaks in to come out the other side of their
necks.

Old Ball Sack is THE reason for the success they've had.

Mar 31, 2014, 5:23 PM

I think he's a miserable old jack-a$$, but he's a good football coach and any success they've had in recent years is entirely due to him. I honestly don't believe there is more than a handful of coaches that could build a top-10 program in that God-forsaken place.

They'd still be in Columbia.

Apr 1, 2014, 1:14 PM

regards to the rules, so i am guessing that just about any coot coach could have them doing pretty good.

Most likely .500 and looking for yet another coach. There is a reason Spurrier will be in the College Football Hall of Fame. Hated him at Florida (mainly because we never beat him) but love him now.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They'd be stuck at 7-8 wins max. They were so lucky

Apr 1, 2014, 1:40 PM

To get SOS. Guy is a jack ### but it's remarkable what he's done there. They went from a punching bag to a top 10 program. As soon as he's gone they'll fall back

Re: They'd be stuck at 7-8 wins max. They were so lucky

Apr 1, 2014, 2:06 PM

We will never be back to that so called "punching bag". Spurrier has transformed this program and because of him, Hyman and now Tanner, donors, and the SEC we have totally upgraded our facilities and are still building things like a new practice field and indoor facility along with academic centers and players lounge. High School players these days don't have a clue about USC prior to Spurrier all they see is a top 10 SEC program so when Spurrier does retire landing a top tier or up and comming coach won't be a problem.

Apr 1, 2014, 3:05 PM

I would look at Florida as an example before K-State due to SEC and facilities (not saying our facilities are up to par with Florida's but we are catching up). Ron Zook and Will Muschamp are prime examples but good players are still committing and when the Gators can finally afford to kick Muschump to the curb you can bet the bank top tier coaches will be lining up for the job.

They should check the bars first

Apr 1, 2014, 2:40 PM

Then go around to all the golf course lounges ...he is bound to have his face in a pint around ChickenTown somewhere.
