33 years ago today when the Challenger exploded. I was in 7th grade, watching live on a TV in 1st period classroom.

still a big deal to see the space shuttle take off cause there weren't that many shuttles and turnaround time between missions was still fairly long. Walked into the library to return a book and the cool librarian (not the grouchy old lady) ,that everybody liked, was turning the TV on to watch the liftoff. 9th grade me is thinking, "Sweet, hang out with Miss Dell watch a little space shuttle...yada yada yada". About ten of us gathered around to watch the liftoff. There were some soft mock cheers from a couple of chicks then it exploded. Obvious gasps and Oh Shids and it was like a scene from a movie...all the sudden everybody in the library was gathered around this 19" TV just gobsmacked. Apparently, they debated ending school for the day, but we went on. Nobody did diddly $hit in class the rest of the day.

I had gotten in trouble at school.. It spared me an ### whooping because everyone was focused on the TV. But I remember it replaying over and over again. I was too young to really realize the gravity of it at the time.

It didn't really affect me. I never had a "do you remember where you were when JFK got shot" moment for that event. I just didn't care much. Never have.
Now 9/11 is a different story entirely. Ho-Lee-Sh-It! I'll never forget that day.

Myfavjr. and I watched it on UTUBE last night. Several different videos. wonder why we ditched the shuttle program. felt like it put us above the rest of the world in space exploration.
