Based on all that was going up at that exit when I left town, I would have figured they'd have had time to build a strip shopping center there that had already lost half the tenants and sat virtually empty.

Eventually, they'll tax the campground off their property and build that strip mall. Surprisingly, they quit doing the Campground Massacre there after Halloween 2015. They had a pretty booming business for that for many years, but I guess being on the front doorstep of Scarowinds ended that. Those folks have managed to dig in and survive for a very long time. I'll never forget the law enforcement raids on the campground for the Grateful Dead tour in '95. There were more than a handful of folks in the parking lot at those shows that were selling wares to try and raise bail money for friends and family, LOL.
