New Story: Plenty of depth at running back, but it's Gallman's job to lose

Plenty of depth at running back, but it's Gallman's job to lose

With questions about depth surrounding the Clemson football program, there’s one position coach that doesn’t have that worry. Running backs coach Tony Elliott likes what he sees out of his room but says that the starting job is Wayne Gallman's job to lose. Full Story »

I want to see several, or all, of them run wild and excel.

YES! The more the merrier! Why not - keep them fresh and

"I want to see several, or all, of them run wild and excel." and uninjured. Individually, they should be pulling for each other because of that reason. If they are as good as advertised, their ypg will be higher, the less they run, and the NFL will be awaiting for a fresher less used running back.
Look what happened to that great Coot running back Lattimore a few years ago.

Deepest group in a long time

And it's nice to hear all of them pushing each other. Hope we use them all and pound it at teams at will.

Sounds to me like they are wanting to redshirt Choice.

Jul 24, 2015, 10:32 AM

That'd be a good move for the future IMO.

If things work out, that would be the logical choice no pun intended. There are not enough carries for 6 guys. So redshirt Choice. Ray ray will be used as a slot reciever. Imagine having him and Scott on field at same time.... That leaves 4 running backs to share the load. Can always have fresh legs in there.

I do not think Fuller is ready... he has heart but he did not look as good as the others in the spring game... he has a tough running style though that I like.

Jul 24, 2015, 11:43 AM [ in reply to Sounds to me like they are wanting to redshirt Choice. ]

Until Choice got hurt he was the best RB on the team.... he was also the best in the wildcat... taking snaps in the shot gun.. he was a QB in highschool..... If he is the best in fall camp then they do not want to red shirt him.
The last few years has taught me that I want 5 or 6 RBs ready to play at the beginning of the season. By the final game you might have 1 or 2?

You may see Cain in the wildcat, unreal QB skills in HS. And don't forget that we'll have Feaster too in 2016!

Year before last I thought zac brooks did s really good job backing up hot rod McDowell. He might be coming on strong.

These running backs could carry this team if needed - hope

Jul 24, 2015, 2:11 PM

not though - If unfortunately Watson was injured, a Schuessler could lead this team simply by relying more on running backs.

Jul 24, 2015, 2:15 PM

I guess we are fine as long as nobody on the OL gets injured this year.

OL coach says freshman want to "bury the dl" & need more

Jul 24, 2015, 2:36 PM

depth - once HS lineman sees this new ol line work this season, they will want to come here!

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah maybe, but we 3-5 short right now and have 3 seniors

Jul 24, 2015, 2:41 PM

on the team. We need to take at least 5 this year just to get to a minimum. I'm sure we will move some TE and DL over to the OL, we have to, but we are still short.

Agree, - look at bright side though - best freshmen yet

Jul 24, 2015, 3:05 PM

- will attract others when they see them play - QUALITY MORE IMPORTANT THAN QUANTITY!

Jul 24, 2015, 7:35 PM [ in reply to Who will block for them ]

Who combined for 2.4 yards per rush with 34 carries and under 100yds for the game. Quite a sobering reminder of how even the best can't run without a line. I'm optimistic that our young OL "talent" with a nasty streak will develop into productivity sooner than later. And even a very young inexperienced Isaiah Battle did well enough vs LSU to help pull that one out. It will be fun to watch how this group does.

C and OG. It's the tackle positions that have me a touch worried.

I love it. Panned as an effort to get Nkemdiche, and now

Jul 24, 2015, 2:43 PM

the favorite to start at RB for the team favored to win the ACC. Not too shabby!

And great depth at Running Back! Great to see. Tons of talent.

I like the way Gallman carries the football

Jul 27, 2015, 3:56 PM

It seems almost perfectly tucked every time he touches it, and he seems to be very strong at preventing strips. It's not a loaf of bread for him! If I recall correctly, he has but one fumble, and that was on the exchange from QB and might have been charged to QB. I don't remember any fumbles in open field (strips) or on tackles.
