stay and continue throwing money, blood, and time away on something that may have an indefinite end or leave and see a larger problem grow. I'm not sure what the right answer is.

I do think Trump is thinking politically here in that leaving causes a no-win situation for Biden. If Biden goes along with the withdrawl he'll get no credit if the effects are seen positively, and be blamed if things get worse by the public. But, if Biden decides to put troops back in/keep there (as the military leaders seem to advise), it becomes his legacy. This is basically Trump washing his hands of dealing with Afghanistan and putting Biden in an unnecessary no-win situation.

To answer your question directly, I don't know if the conditions will be met but I also am wary about creating a vaccuum in Afghanistan that makes all the money/blood/lives we've lost in vain. I'd lean towards listening to our military leadership on this, but I don't really know.

You might be right about the motives

and there's pros and cons to both, hypothetically.

I think you need to err on the side of bringing our boys home.

Don't know much about Esper, but there are TONS of folks in washington on both sides of the aisle that are in the pockets of the military industrial complex. Again, not sure that Esper is one of them, but I think the odds are good. These folks thrive on sending our fellas overseas for $$$

It will be a disaster when we leave be it 2020,2030,etc.

Might as well have the disaster early and save money.

Seriously, I think Trump is doing the right thing here and I despise Trump.

it seems consistent with his own personal policy to avoid armed conflict.
