To all of you rulz experts out there, when is an offsides

a free play? Why did the refs call the play dead? Why was it not a free play?

There are three instances when the play is blown dead...

1 - The defender makes contact with any offensive player.

2 - An offensive player moves while the defender is in the neutral zone.

3 - The defender would have an unabated path to the quarterback which is, of course, a safety issue.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Which may be what happened Saturday...

I need to go back and watch the replay but I'm not sure the defender made contact. Not that it really matters now.

The defender did make contact, but the center was pretty quick with the snap and it's really close as to which one came first.

The officials weren't going to take any chances though and they were blowing it dead almost before they got the flags out.
