Yard gets a pretty good amount of sun in the morning. Sun comes up across the street from my house (from the left in the after shot).

I know nothing about grass but I have a question...

Apr 22, 2013, 4:30 PM

Would this be the best grass to get get for a yard that is mostly in the shade? I have a pretty barren front yard that I'd like to improve.

I am in Whitehall Estates, across Whiskey from Fermata Club. Grew up in Aiken Estates, though, with flow0440.

Speaking of grass,I learned a valuable lesson about ryegrass

Apr 22, 2013, 2:27 PM

Even though it looks really cool in the winter to have a nice green yard, if you over seed it on top of centipede grass (like I did), annual ryegrass (and annual is the key word here) will pretty much choke out your centipede and leave you with bare dirt when the rye starts to die off. Annual grows in big clumps, develops pretty good roots, and even though many say that it helps the soil for centipede, at least in my back yard, are completely wrong.

I too will soon be sodding with Zoysia.

I ruined a good yard.

Apr 22, 2013, 2:52 PM

The houses PO had a nice install of centipede I thought I could make look better in the wintertime.

Nice thought.

I have 2 dogs and centipede grass isn't best for their high traffic; that said, its a lot better than the dirt I'm going to have in 2-3 weeks when the rye finishes dying off.

Nice work***
