The way to get rid of a coach.

Mar 2, 2014, 3:04 PM

Fan Boycott.

When the seats stay empty and the money declines, the administration takes action.

Remember Hatfield and West.

Not so fast my friend

Mar 2, 2014, 3:07 PM

If that were the case we would hire a new basketball coach every year.

Not directed at anyone

With all the banter of late, just stating what occurred in the past.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

this directed at getting rid of brownell or legget?******

Re: Both?***

Can understand the Leggett bashing. We are an established, respected, storied baseball program that recruits very well...Leggetts excuses and time is or should be running razor thin. Brownell however, has none of the luxuries Leggett does and we are still middle of the pack with a great talent & facility disadvantage compared to most of our competition. Save the Pitt game, as I recall we've been in every game. Brownell is probably the best "coach" we have on campus. Yes, not the greatest recruiter, but is that his fault? No...We should be happy with what he is doing. Leggett, eh, not so much...

We were not in the UNC game either. And yes, it is his job

Mar 2, 2014, 3:29 PM

To recruit so that is on him also.

I want to like Brad. I am trying to like Brad. I don't think he should be fired this year, but time is running out.

What are you expecting out of our BB program? A 1st-4th finish every year in the ACC? Not gonna happen unless we 8 vest in facilities. Then it still may not happen. OP left the us with little talent in the middle of the night. Simply put our basketball program has never been UNC/Duke and never will as their football programs will never be equal to ours...Think he should make the tournament at least every 3 years and think he will...He is a good coach that gets more out of his players than Jack or Dabo...

We just put over 30 mil in basketball facilities a few years

Mar 2, 2014, 3:45 PM

Ago. Facilities are not the problem. Culture is the problem. We have to change that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Cuture is indeed a huge part of the problem

Mar 2, 2014, 3:56 PM

but the fact we put $30 million worth of polish on a turd doesn't change the fact it is indeed a turd. We are at or near the bottom of our conference in basketball facilities by any measurable means.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes LJ is a dump. It should have been torn down. But have

Mar 2, 2014, 4:04 PM

you ever been to other ACC facilities? I have. Some of them are dumps also. In fact, Duke's famous arena is more like a high school facility than college.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

When you have the pedigree of a Duke

Mar 2, 2014, 5:48 PM

you can overcome sub-par facilities. When you have the pedigree of Clemson basketball you don't tie one hand behind your back with facilities like we have and expect success.

We don't need to further handicap ourselves with bad facilities (not just the game venue but practice facilities, etc.) when we are already at a disadvantage in recruiting because we aren't in a urban area. The very thing that helps us in football recruiting is a hindrance in basketball recruiting. Why? Couldn't tell you since the majority of both groups are teenaged African-Americans but for whatever reason it is. It would make an interesting case study IMO.

Anyone that believes Brownell should be fired is clueless and clearly doesn't understand the game of basketball.
