And, one of them is to Clemson. Head-to-head wins and a better record should count for something.

Kirk has lost his mind this year . . .

Kirk used to understand the difference between assessing a team based on the data, vs. merely being a creature of the moment who goes simply reacts to who's hot and who looks good now. But lately he's fallen into the latter. I don't deny that Auburn has looked better than anyone in the country the last two weeks. But what you do in September and October doesn't count any less, despite the conventional wisdom to the contrary.

Their starting QB didn't look that hot when they took him out of the game.

Clemson beat Auburn or do you remember that ? Don’t let them beating 2 overhyped SEC schools taint your thought process lol. Alabama beat a bunch of poor teams, Georgia beat a ND team that isn’t as good as the analyst thought and were destroyed by Auburn. Clemson is clear #1 and Oklahoma is #2.... Auburn has 2 losses, they could beat a #1 team every week but 2 losses hurts....I even see them losing next week if Jake Fromm can play a decent game to go along with that run game!

The talking heads aren't smart enough that the SEC is

exposing itself. These teams aren't becoming dominant. Bama hasn't played anyone all year. They've hardly played any true road games at all. Outside of Vandy, they ones they did they struggled. UGA didn't play anyone either. It was thought that Notre Dame was a good win, but now that Notre Dame is finally playing good teams, they are also showing their worth.
For some reason the mentality is that the SEC team that beats the other SEC team has to be the best. They can't fathom that the best in the SEC is simply good, not great. Is that to say that Auburn isn't good? No it's not. They are a good team, playing really well. They're not the best in the country though.

Herbstreit knows exactly what he's doing
Nov 26, 2017, 1:03 AM
|

He is predicting Auburn will beat Clemson in 1st round or title game. He is passing by the argument of who should be #1 today - and jumping to who he believes will win it all.
Hopefully he's wrong, but AUB has a shot.

You are probably right about what he's doing, but at some point he took his eye off the ball and switched philosophies. He used to very clearly articulate meritorious "body of work" criteria for his arguments, and now he's going with the hot hand. If it's a prognostication he is offering, that's fine - it really is, but he's veered away from ranking as the committee does (i.e. overall resume) whilst not saying so. He's been lured into the echo-chamber group think, when he knows darn well all the discussions that his media outlet and others promote is about the committee's rankings at any given time, not prognostications.

He is doing that and preparing Ohio St's loophole to sneak into the CFP at the same time.

Kirk,
Bama and Auburn are playing in the weak SEC. Clemson has more signature win than any other team.

Probably wake up today and realize how stupid his comment was. I new Bama would get beat. They struggled against Miss St.
