The only thing I liked about the 1977 Gator Bowl

Dec 1, 2018, 12:15 PM

was that I was a teenager at the time, in the 10th
grade at Daniel High School. I was feeling frisky
and invincible and like I was going to live forever
and drooling over girls and my Farrah Fawcett poster
and anticipating getting a license to drive a 1964
Ford Falcon station wagon (medium desert tan, 6 cyl,
3 on the the tree) and thinking about replacing an
8 track player with a cassette player and working out
to get buff and even studying some.

We were abuzz at school about CU playing and almost
beating Notre Dame who won the NC that year and the
coot game with the big lead and their comeback and
The Catch and getting to play in the Gator Bowl vs
Pitt, who had won the NC in '76 with Dorsett. The
bowl was a bust, but then we got excited about the
CU basketball team since Bill Foster had started out
pretty good with leftover Tates Locke players and his
recruits and he had his 2 cute daughters at our school
and Duke had a coach with the same name who later
coached at Coot U. It's great to remember the exuberance
and frivolity of youth, but we need revenge for that
beatdown 41 years ago and the heartbreaker 2 years ago.
