Finebaum's redneck emporium was intimating that Tenn's loss last night might fall on the shoulders of Rick Barnes.....that he was "never sold" on Barnes' hire and that some coaches are good tournament coaches and some are not......I'd certainly take the season the viles had over ours...heck, they were ranked #1 for a few weeks----something Clemson's never done (although we did make it to #2 after beating Kentucky in Lex one year)
When beat writers behave like this, it almost explains the idiocy displayed by so many SEC fans

I mean what do they want? Yes, this was a special past 2 years for them and they should've gone further but the randomness of the tourney is tough. If that ref swallows his whistle or they didnt call a couple of goal tends against UT or Schofield doesn't reject himself at the rim....they win. And Barnes is great. He's doing about as well as you can do anywhere.

I remember camping out for Wake Forest tickets the week

we were #2. They opened up Littlejohn and let people hang out in there, as we camped. Barnes came over and bought pizza for all the students.

The only reason he brought pizza for the students is because

he knew he was going to leave Clemson within 2 years and wanted to feel less guilty about it. The writing was on the wall that he wasn't going to be able to keep recruiting and winning games because he was only being paid a $38,000 salary and had to use that salary to cover the costs of his own recruiting trips.

I heard he was having to recruit via telepathy

as there was no recruiting budget. And for him to buy all those pizzas on a measly 38K just shows why he was loved so much.

We beat Kentucky in the RCA dome in Indy. They went on to lose to Arizona for the national championship.

Rick is an excellent coach and Tennessee is fortunate

to have him there.
I don't think he is a very good NCAA Tournament coach, as his teams frequently underperform there, but it's hard to argue with his regular season success and NCAA Tournament appearances.
Barnes is way better than Cuonzo Martin was, and also a superior coach to Bruce Pearl IMO.
