Coach V's toughest job

Jan 31, 2020, 9:30 AM

at Clemson will be this season. Losing 5 of 7 back end starters is a huge task and much harder than replacing the big guys on the front 4 where size and strength are the keys.

for true freshmen to be a big part of the best DL in the country.

Take a small step back.

along the defensive line, should be no step back there. But, in the back seven we will see an early drop off until the new guys gain on-field experience. No one guy will be able to replace Isaiah.

Not nearly as difficult as 5 years ago now that they can come in 6-7 months early and start preparing.

Yes replacing starters who can play at a national Championship level but have bigger dreams like taking over for Dean and Sam on Supernatural is gonna be hard. We now have a new opponent, Hollywood is coming after our players!

Counting the fact that Nolan Turner played a ton this past season, we are only looking for 4 of the 7 spots to be filled with new guys.

We had a couple corners who were ready this past season but sat behind a better player, so one of them should be able to be counted on to start with little drop.

Down to 3 needed.

The '19 and '20 classes had some strong safety prospects. The smartest one will play because they are all likely athletic upgrades from what we lost.

Down to 2 needed.

The two LB spots I think have the most chance of serious drop off. We will definitely drop off from Simmons. The question is how quickly somebody can come in and play at the level of Chad Smith. I think we again have more athletic options to fill his spot so the smartest will play.

Down to 1 needed.

We won't Simmons spot, but if we can find good options at the other 3 spots that we lost then Venables will scheme differently to help cover the void until somebody is ready to play the hybrid position left by Simmons.

Perfect poast. Tons of talent on campus and no team replaces a Simmons. Players like Simmons, you are thankful that you had them when you had them and know that those don't come around often. That Arky coach before The Chad has to be dumb as he wouldn't offer Simmons a scholarship.

Lol...nice try.

You have no clue what you're talking about. This year's back-end will be the most talented group Venables has ever had.

Clemson's defense is stocked 2 and 3-deep with players who have waited for their turns and played a ton of snaps.

Clemson's defense will be flat nasty this year. The DL is going to be tough for anybody to contend with. It'll be absolutely loaded with top-tier talent going 3-4 deep players deep at every position.

Last season was a rebuilding year. This season is another NC year.

Much of our most gifted and talented players...

Jan 31, 2020, 11:33 AM

Have not started yet. They simply lacked experience. We might see a more athletic LB and DB core overall. We have gotten to the dynasty phase where we won’t and don’t need to rush young talent in most cases. You will see more well prepared players from here on out. Also remember that other college teams are replacing every 3-4 years as well

Players who are all over the field really fast in their first year, but can be seen in the wrong places at times, are typically still really fast at running around the field in year two but are much better at heading in the right direction really fast.

I am hopeful that we have some of those year 2 guys in the secondary this season.

Landon Zanders is front and center of my list of players who come to mind and I don't recall him being out of position that much last season.

Spring ball is going to be a fun time. You know the coaches are anxious to get started with the talent that they have available to them. Get your tickets early for the spring game! It is going to be a can’t miss affair. I doubt if anyone in the college football world is feeling sorry for my team. Go Tigers
