My weekly public service to anybody out there who believes there will be more than 4 undefeated teams at the end of the year vying for a place in the College Football Playoffs. It won’t happen, despite each year worry and angst are abound with people wondering if we will have a decision to make among undefeated teams come playoff time!

The inevitable will happen….it’s called “the thinning of the herd”

Recap Of Last Week
I warned you heading into this week that there were many teams from the herd on “upset alert”. While most of the teams on upset alert found their ways to a win…there is always danger lurking in the weeds and that danger will jump up and bite you. And, I'm curious if any of the teams that "struggled" to a win will drop in the polls like Clemson has....things that make you go "hmmmm".

Anyway, Jalen Hurts was not a legitimate Heisman contender to begin with, but we can officially bury his campaign in Manhattan, Kansas. Oklahoma, a team that was favored to win the rest of their games by double digits much like Clemson, fell hard in the “little apple”. The plains of Kansas has reduced the herd.

The herd is now down to 7…it will be at least at least down to 5 in two weeks.

Guaranteed Thinning Will Take Place
None

"Upset Alert”
West Virginia vs. Baylor. The Bears remain on upset alert simply because they are swimming in the deep pool and they are wearing floaties.

Will Keep Winning....For Now
Wofford at Clemson. It’s Military Appreciate Day!
Ohio State has a bye.
Alabama and LSU both have bye before one eats the other on November 9th.
Penn State and Minnesota have bye before one eats the other November 9th.

Scott,

There is no guaranteed thinning this week... The PSU/Minn game is on 11/9 same as Bama/LSU.
All 4 teams are on bye week this week to prepare for their respective showdowns and battle for the Gameday locale.

You are correct to have a max 5 unbeaten P5 teams after week 11 (11/9) though.

Ohio State is on a bye this week 10 as well. Michigan plays Maryland.

I definitely don’t think there will be 4 undefeated teams but still appreciate your clarifying the thinning!

Well I had Oklahoma going down, as well as LSU and Minnesota. I felt Auburn would fo just enough to upset LSU, because I'm not sold on them being the #1 team in the country. Maryland wasn't as good as I thought they "could be" and Minnesota wasn't nearly as bad as I thought they "could be". I thought that Maryland would catch Minnesota sleep walkikg with Penn St on their brains and rise up and play to a level way above their own heads. Well, i was wrong. Way wrong.
