The Genesis Of A "Cinderella" Story ...

Jan 15, 2013, 11:20 PM

being the cup half-full kind of a guy that I am ... I believe CLEMSON is going to be the Cinderella Story of the ACC this year ...

The way Jennings, Booker, McDaniels and the others have been playing ....

This is better then Football ! (but not the CFA Bowl Game)

if we can hold teams to less than 60 points I believe we can beat anybody. especially the way booker, jennings, and mcdaniel have been playing. We are going to have a very good team in the next few years. people tend to forget that some of our best recruits are hurt.

After the Duke game many jumped ship

and that game was ugly playing in Cameron with freshmen and sophs for the first time. Not to mention they were ranked #1. But what we have seen the last 2 games should come as no surprise, as we have seen this with Brownell the first 2 years. His teams get better as the year goes on. One of these years he won't be integrating 4-5-6 newcomers and we'll be better offensively earlier on, but it's encouraging to see the young pups learning and growing. If BB can somehow coax a 9-9 league record, win a game in the tourney and make the NIT, it would be a huge victory for such a young, inexperienced team. Their will be other ugly games, but we'll learn from them, just like Duke. And I keep hearing our talent is thin...we don't have high p[rofile talent, but we have talent. With another big man in this recruiting cycle to go along with Rooks, Ajukwa and adding in Coleman and Blossomgame, we're going to have a very sound foundation.

I think we are one step away from being very consistent.

So many of the Brownell players can handle the ball and play strong defense very soon in their careers. In the past it seemed to take 3 years before the guys were able to really contribute in the ACC games. It may not happen this season, but I think the roller coaster ride is about over.

Next year we'll have 4-5 newcomers again

plus reintegrating Coleman, so I'd expect the same type learning curve we've seen last year and this year. Once we pass that hurdle, I do believe we'll see a very consistent product on the court. With Brownell one thing I've really looked forward to seeing is the improvement our players make in the off season. Both McDaniels and Hall have made big strides toward becoming real ACC players. Not every player will, but we'll always see some who will. With this current group of freshmen, I think we already see that Filer and Roper will be 4 year contributors, with Filer having a chance to be exceptional. Last night, even though he's extremely raw, we saw how Nnoko can impact a game on defense. I still believe we are moving toward the type of program Terry Holland had at Virginia, a consistent winner, with under the radar guys for the most part. Then, if somehow you can eventually add a game changer, like Holland did with Sampson, you move to a truly elite level. Every year we see programs like Butler, Gonzaga, Creighton and the likes win with players like ours. It can be done, and we have the type of coach to do that.
