We won the cold war thanks to academic freedom.

I am in academia and I shrug at this. This is such a NON-issue it isn't even worthy of the internet paper.

I don't think they should be allowed to teach economics (it is just made up) or claim that Missouri is a state... but that is just me :)

As did Stalin, Mussolin, Pol Pot....I could list so many. No need to go further here. Let’s just accept the fact that oppressive ‘Liberal’ governments discourage higher education. I have taught at 4 univs and never ran across a ‘commie #######’ cabal at any of them.
At one such university, in fact UGA, along with the Coots a nucleus of football muppetry, my contract contained a clause which declared my loyalty to the US and our constitution.
Every professor signs this document.

Lets vehemently defend our beliefs, but maybe we can all be more gentlemanly about our approach. I include myself.

You are correct we didn't win it because I argue that it never ended. I spent 23 years in the Navy patrolling the oceans and nothing changed from the 1980's to the 1990's or even the 2000's. The only thing that changed was the Ussr changed their name to Russia to make people think they were no longer a socialist state. That didn't fool anyone but the news organizations. Our government didn't change a thing.

It's interesting that Chinese nationals call it the "Confucius Institute." Didn't the Mao practically eradicate Confucius' teachings?
