The ACC was foolish for adding Pitt and BC. The new NCAA

rule will only exaggerate their inferiority. The ACC wrongly thought they were adding big TV markets. The idiots never researched the viewership of college sports in major pro sports towns (hint - practically nonexistent). Do you honestly think even the best players at Pitt or BC will find someone who wants their likeness for a billboard? Heck, I bet 90% of the Boston population doesn't even know who Doug Flutie is or where he played college.

Adding BC had nothing to do with television...

although that's certainly how the league sold it.
Everyone in the free world knows that Boston is a pro sports city and doesn't give a rats rump about college sports.
Boston College was added because, at the time, Swofford's son worked for the school and likely received some benefit for his work in getting BC into the ACC.

Watch out, you know who will be here soon to vehemently defend his favorite commissioner with his usual bag of recycled insults....

You may be correct in general. But I do believe many in Beantown know who Flutie is. He was outstanding, even won a Heistman. And his teams were excellent, tying and beating Clemson in consecutive years and staging one the great hail Mary comebacks against Miami in 1984.

Also, Boston is a huge hockey hub and their teams are quite popular and have won national championships.

As ill-advised as that move may have been all will be forgiven if during the next round of expansion the ACC adds ND and Penn State.
Penn State will always be a red-headed step-child in the Big Ten, their fans know it and they know it.
I think there would be a lot of support to move to the ACC.

ND doesn't want to join a conference. They are making too much $ right where they are. Penn State move from the BIG10 to the ACC? I doubt it.

Again, it is a myth that ND makes more money with NBC (about $15M) than they would as a full member of the ACC.
ND’s money comes from a huge number of wealthy and loyal alumni/donors. That doesn’t disappear if they join a conference.

Notre Dames contract with NBC...

which runs through 2025, only pays them about $15 million annually.
The ACC paid roughly $37 million to its full member institutions last year.
Notre Dame received roughly $6 million from the ACC.

And ND just signed a future H and A with Michigan... That plus their USC H and A makes it look like they are going farther into their Independent role...

Travel Angle Huge!

I'm not sure the travel angle is the way to sale Penn State coming to the ACC. Because, it's possible they have to go down to Miami or Atlanta or Clemson. Most ACC cities I would think are "easier" to get to - meaning flights out of major airports and such.
Penn St. has only been in the Big 10 since 1990 officially though (not sure how or why) they didn't start playing games until 1993.
Which means - they don't have this - "we have been there since the beginning so let's not change anything attitude"! If you are Penn State and the larger Big 10 money is not as important as GETTING AWAY FROM OHIO STATE AND MICHIGAN they might consider the move. Especially if they as a group believe - the ACC is weak and that they could come and rule along side or above Clemson/FSU.

If it was up to Penn State fans they would jump at he opportunity to be in the ACC. Better road games, that are a closer drive in general, natural rivalry with Pitt and as was said OSU and Michigan rule the conference ever when they are not good.
