The ACC has won 56 football National Championships

Nov 27, 2012, 8:34 PM

B1G = 81
SEC = 59
ACC = 56
Pac 12 = 33
Big 12 = 30

Phil Kornbluit said the ACC is dying. The ACC lost Maryland! There are several schools as good or better than Maryland begging to join the ACC. Personally, I would not accept any of them. I would go for the WVU "brand" with an invitation to WVU that is effective when their 10 year contract with the Big 12 is expired. In the mean time I would divide the ACC into a 6 team division (including Notre Dame) and an 8 team division. Only divisional games count in the divisional standings. Extra conference games are scheduled to round out 8 or 9 games per team. (Except ND who has only agreed to play 5 ACC games per year).

Coastal: Notre Dame, BC, Pitt, Syracuse, VA Tech, Miami

Atlantic: FSU, GT, Clemson, UNC, NCST, Duke, Wake, UVA

The Notre Dame arrangement would only be temporary until WVU’s can join the ACC (or until Notre Dame is willing to join the ACC and share revenue just like the other teams.)

The only improvments to this plan would be for the Big 10 to take Wake Forest out of the ACC (We can hope, right? They did take Maryland!).

those numbers are wildly inaccurate

Nov 27, 2012, 8:36 PM

apparently 1981 was a 6 way split title

Here are some different numbers from a different website -

with the same relative point.

B1G = 28
SEC = 21
ACC = 20
Pac12 = 10
Big12 = 5

Wow. These numbers are horribly inaccurate.

AM I reading this right? They have been playing football for 259 years? Give or take a few.

This stat is for losers

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Of course

Nov 27, 2012, 9:04 PM

Well you've got NCAA football, flag football; intramural football; frat football; lingerie football; 7 on 7 football; indoor football...

Lest I forgot the Big One: paper football!

Nov 27, 2012, 9:10 PM

Uh, I count more like 23.

Per that Wikipedia article:
Miami = 9, though most while not in the ACC
FSU = 7, also mostly while not in the ACC
GT = 6,
CU = 1.

That's 23. Add in Maryland and you get 2 more, but that's kinda the point of your post...

Nov 27, 2012, 9:14 PM

Are you guys idiots? Miami with 9.. here is the deal.. GT has 4, Miami 5, FSU 2, Clem, well, 1...what the hell is the 56??

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Seems odd to count CU's 1981 but exclude Pitt's 1976

Nov 27, 2012, 9:22 PM

Do we not count anything that happend prior to 1981?

ND isnt joining.. they are in the NC as an independent. Why would they join a conf now?

WV isnt coming to the ACC. They were snubbed in an insulting way last time.

The ACC has no options and a crappy TV deal

The ACC is dying.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why wouldn't ND join the ACC if they only had to play 5

Nov 27, 2012, 9:55 PM

conference games and were not required to share their revenue?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

4 in my lifetime:

Nov 27, 2012, 10:03 PM

Clemson '81
Tech '90
FSU '93 & '99

We don't get credit for any of Miami's titles.

The SEC has had 6 in the last 6 years.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's all about what you can do now....

History is good for pride but doesn't translate directly to wallets.
