Most outfield walls are green because it is easier to pick up the ball against a dark background. This is especially true of centerfield as it makes the ball more visable coming from the pitchers hand. Unless the rules have changed the pitcher cannot have white sleeves. I remember just a few years ago Roger Clemens had to change gloves because the one he was using had a white spot on it!

But, purple would serve the same purpose - a dark wall for the batter to see the white ball.

From tv during the ND game the outfield fence looked rather "rag tag" down near field level. Very cosmetic ugly. We got the dollas make it look good!

I think that looks bad too. Isn't there a spray gun available to freshen them up? Guess they hope for orange fannies in the seats instead
