Tiger Fight Cheer History/Evolution

Dec 3, 2018, 11:19 PM

The Tiger Fight Cheer ended in "Fight, Fight" when I was a Rat Hat Wearing Freshman at Clemson....

Now, it ends in "Fight, Fight, Fight"

Here's the history of the cheer, and how it changed:

I also recall from the mid to late 70's

Fight Tigers, Fight D@mnit...Fight, Fight, Fight!

adding the D@mnit makes the third 'Fight' work for ending on the right foot, not the left

That's what I remember from the 70s. Still do it,***

Clemson cheerleader for three years in the late 60's, and we didn't use the 1-2-3-4 but included the word d@mnit followed by three fights. That version was performed at a slower pace due to our physical routines.

There were other cheers, such as "Rip em up, tear em up," used in those days plus a notorious, famous and profane one, "Rat s..., bat s..." performed all over campus. Never will forget performing the last one on the quadrangle with a huge crowd of coeds laughing and clapping on the loggia.

I was taught two "fights" in Tiger Band in the 90's

(and no "damm!t") and continue to do it that way. I'm less sure that Tiger Band still teaches two fights.

The recent trend to accelerate the cadence annoys me, but I think it's starting to taper off.

I only say 2 fights. If you pause slightly after 2nd
