Let's talk firearms

I saw this on fox and found it weird. Clearly, the implication is "we saw guns and were therefore justified in feeling threatened." Well I looked up Missouri gun laws, and let's just say it's a weird rabbit hole. Please correct me if there are some local statutes in play here, but essentially anyone in Missouri can carry (open or concealed) without a permit as long as they're 19 and not a felon or something. So the question now is, should you feel threatened by someone with a firearm who is otherwise not physically or verbally threatening you?

For the record, I doubt they actually saw anything, but it's a legal defense that would be difficult for the prosecution.

I don't really care about the actual couple. I would assume they get the charges dropped if they haven't already. I was more interested in the circular logic of the gun laws; I'm within my rights to draw my weapon because you have your weapon, which is perfectly legal...maybe even to protect yourself from idiots like me who carry weapons.

I would feel threatened by an angry mob busting into a gated community if they were all carrying pom poms. That’s the point of THE GATE!

I think that's part of the problem, the standards shouldn't be subjective when there are people out there threatened by their own shadow.

I side with the home owners. The charges should be dropped.

Not unless he draws, which means you can draw too and shoot him dead and not have appear before judge Clancy.. I think we are talking about the same law Missouri has had on their books since 1843.

Didn't one of them claim their weapon was unloaded? Seems like a poor strategy if they were pointing their weapons at other people with weapons.

Nobody else will ever see the gun. She gave it to her attorney, so it gets the same treatment as the bag of bloody clothes that OJ gave his lawyer.

Between them claiming that they saw firearms and that they heard threats, I don't see how you could successfully prosecute them. I'm seriously not interested in the couple, it just led me to look at the Missouri gun laws and I couldn't believe them. Once again, you can open or conceal carry as long as you're 19 (18 for military) and aren't a felon. Open carry comes up on the P&R board every so often and I am firmly in the "I can't think of a good reason to open carry" camp. Seems like a good way to get yourself shot.

community, not publicly maintained, then that whole lot of gatecrashers were trespassing just by being on that street uninvited, right? However, with the city's mayor's residence being there, there might be some gray area in terms of charging the marchers based around civil disobedience. No lawyer here.
As for the couple, pretty poor form for the DA to prosecute the homeowners for brandishing weapons on their own lawn and driveway with that going on. It only takes one sad sack in a bushel to poison the waterhole, so they are probably all fortunate that nothing out of hand unraveled.
Just move on and let everyone get a stern lecture and a warning for next time.
