What positions do we expect Ray Ray and Cain to play?

Aug 1, 2015, 11:16 AM

I'm pretty sure they will be on the field a lot, so where will we expect them?

I'm guessing Cain might sub for Williams on the boundary, and Ray Ray might do some of those jet sweeps like Scott does, but not really sure about either. We can't keep those guys off the field too long. They're going to cause a lot of nightmares for DC's this year.

There is no need to guess. The coaches have clearly stated that Cain starts out backing up Williams at the boundry and Ray Ray starts out behind Scott at the 2 spot and transitions to a hybrid WR/RB. Likely by motioning into the backfield from the slot to present a 2-back look to the defense ala Auburn. I agree with you that they will both see significant playing time in 2015.

I say redshirt them, I mean what do they have to offer but speed and the ability to make big plays.

no chance of that happening unless they are injured***

I believe there was a slight hint of sarcasm in his redshirt answer lol.

Expect Cain to play some Wildcat because
of being A HS QB who can run and pass.

With the way players are jumping in the NFL after their mandatory college playing time, why redshirt them. If they don't make but a couple of good plays, that will be more game experience they will have before leaving after junior year. Senior year player are in the trenches...

Cain will play the X (rotating with williams).

Ray-ray and Scott will share touches on screens, sweeps and vertical throws.

Also, I believe our OC's plan to shift Ray pre-snap to line up in the backfield to confuse D's in terms of in terms of whether or not to associate him as a RB or WR. Could see some triple option (see Auburn and ontario mccalleb) with Ray as well.

So I'm guessing that Trevion Thompson plays behind Charone Peake?

We need help at LT depth

Aug 1, 2015, 11:43 AM

Either of them play LT?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That would be one Tackle Eligible that might be picked up

McClain is projected to backup Hyatt. Projects better at G and will play both based off need.

McClain is a physically impressive dude heading into this season, too. Best I've seen him look since arrivung on campus.

We won't need a kicker this year. TD's only. And blowouts.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wish we would adopt the Oregon go for 2 approach.

Aug 1, 2015, 12:35 PM

I like the way they line up for 2, see if they have an advantage, then either go for 2 (if advantage is seen) or shift into going for 1.

You know me better than i know myself, it seems.

Me and my other account TU each other all the time, too. Helps with pulse. In case you were wondering how I've receive a whopping 5 of them in over the course of my last 80 posts.

WR

Aug 1, 2015, 12:08 PM

Cain on the boundary and Ray Ray in the slot. It's possible that Ray Ray could line up in the backfield on occasion in the wildcat or even as RB, but his primary role will be as a receiver and he will line up that way most of the time. Cain played QB in HS, so he could line up in wildcat too. All of this talent and versatility could be a real problem - for our opponents.

I forsee a HB option pass from Cain to DW4 for a TD

Aug 1, 2015, 12:50 PM

That would be a great trick play...one that should work.

That was a Heisman icing play for Andre Ware against SMU. It might happen a few times the next couple of years

Re: What positions do we expect Ray Ray and Cain to play?

Aug 1, 2015, 1:25 PM

He will be an all in one offensive skill guy. But I think that with his speed, he will line up in the slot, and out of the back field receiver. He will be Sammy #2!!!
