Jul 7, 2020, 7:46 AM

Whats the 25th again? I really don't know. Also, as these people keep protesting, ripping down statues other than Confederate ones, and harping on racism, the more I think Trump's chances go up.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

astute observation

Jul 7, 2020, 7:50 AM

25th amendment deals with vice president replacing president upon death.

I think you are right. Continued chaos helps Trump. I sense that even those sympathetic to the movement are growing impatient with the violence, especially when children being shot is making the news.

Yep, notice Trump has kind of let it go

Jul 7, 2020, 8:24 AM [ in reply to Re: Are Dem’s planning to use 25th Amendment? ]

Except the statue thing. He was, let's crack heads. Now he's like, hey we're here if you need us, knowing these Dems will never ask for help from Trump.

The longer these Dems let the violence go, the stronger Trump gets imo. And for good reason

It has a provision for the VP to take over in case the

president is incapable of doing his job. I think it has only been invoked with Reagan. It takes a majority of the cabinet.

I think it also establishes how the VP is replaced if he is elevated to Pres. Only invoked with Ford (LBJ, TR, et al. did not have VPs when they took over).

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think this "worry" misses a key factor.

Jul 7, 2020, 7:55 AM

This is not a monarchy. The President is not a king. Having someone as the President does not make for a "coup," as long as there are three co-equal branches of government.

I truly believe you can put the most extreme, progressive, liberal in the White House, and not much would really change. That's the genius of our form of government.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Good theory, if the branches were truly co-equal.

Jul 7, 2020, 7:59 AM

Under Obama and Trump the executive branch has pulled ahead quite a bit in the power triad, with the judicial branch following closely behind.

This could be stemmed by a legislative branch with a backbone and a willingness to make tough, if not potentially unpopular decisions, but they seem to be happy ceding power and staying off the radar.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That may be true to some extent, but

Jul 7, 2020, 8:03 AM

I don't think it's so far gone, that a President could make sweeping changes on his or her own.

My biggest concern is that the Democratic Party gain control of the Presidency and both houses of Congress. That would set up more change. And that was one of my primary concerns in 2016 with the election of President Trump, looking forward four years. I hope this does not happen.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Now you’re sounding like me.....

Jul 7, 2020, 8:07 AM

I’ve said since the Bush era that with both parties so divided, and neither party seeming to represent me perfectly, my biggest hope is for gridlock.

Even that may get ruined by unchecked (or selectively checked) executive orders and a senate that is very likely to do away with the 60 vote rule and go with simple majority as the new norm sooner than later.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

with Trump stuff he and the Senate have been stacking the Federal courts with hundreds of 40 year old judicial appointments. Their major qualification is that they wholeheartedly support the pro big business screw everyone else, America First agenda. They will influence things far beyond even the next 4 election cycles.

They are playing a truly long game that almost no one is playing any attention to.

If the GOP doesn't make major changes

Jul 8, 2020, 9:54 PM

to attract new voters, there will be a large enough Democratic majority in the Senate to remove judges before 16 years pass. I'm sure they will make a big correction post-Trump, whether that happens in a couple of months or later. Changing demographics and increasing education are not good for the modern Republican party otherwise.

Jul 7, 2020, 8:04 AM [ in reply to I think this "worry" misses a key factor. ]

"liberal" or more "conservative?"

Put the "most extreme, progressive, liberal" in the White House with a SLIGHT advantage in Congress, appoint progressive thinking judges on the court...

I know plenty of young people who have left extremely conservative homes, gone to college, even "Christian" colleges become flaming liberals. Every four year cycle it seems we move further left ideologically.

Good line I heard from Dennis Miller the other day

Jul 7, 2020, 8:11 AM [ in reply to do you think the country is becoming more... ]

And yes, nit pickers, there’s some hyperbole.....just a funny, seemingly halfway accurate point...it was something like...

“Folks, I keep hearing that there’s a looming ideological civil war on the horizon.....I have news for you.....it’s already been fought and their side won”

Good point.....in the military analogy the left has the “high ground” of education, entertainment, and for the most part, media. While the right was farting around with the contract with America, they were playing the long game brilliantly.

Talking specifically about the national debt, I think the problem is that the status quo on both sides is to just deal with it later. It's stuff like this that I think moves both sides away from center.

It's funny that you picked those three examples. Do you not see why those would be important for recent college graduates?

Who would know the deep state far left agenda better than a republican? I guess 70+ year old white guys gotta stick together.

On a more serious note, I take any attack on Biden that isn't about his policies or character as a sort of endorsement of him. "Gotta make sure Joe stays out of office or we might end up with a black woman as President."

Why are you so racist?

The point of the OP article is “...or we will end up with a radical leftist as President.” Race has nothing to do with it, except it does for the Dems because it sounds like they are trying to make “black woman” a requirement for Joe’s VP pick. Some people are totally focused on race, and it’s not your hated old white guys.

for a government run by conservative black females.

The only time skin color plays into my vote is if the choice is between a conservative white person and a conservative black person. I will vote for the black person when everything else is equal.

The fact that it is a black woman is political manipulation. Conservatives are concerned with the politics of the person so close to the WH. It is also disturbing that sex and race has become a qualification.

the qualifications are people who have a big enough ego or mental instability who can survive a culture where social media look to bring out the worst in everybody.

That's one of the most poorly written opinion pieces I've

Jul 7, 2020, 8:44 AM

ever read.

They are a fanatical group.

Biden is suspect to them, of course.

He defeated their patron saints, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Warren, and thus they demand that he have as his cohort an acceptable socialist/progressive who is fervent about the cause.

This is about power.

All major elections are.

This guy isn't writing complete paragraphs. It's like a series of bullet points.

His colleagues could declare him too old to handle the presidency and remove him under the 25th Amendment.

Et tu, Brute?

The Cause will have been completed.

Power will be fully in the hands of the statue-removers, the social justice police and those who see America's political history as basically evil. Socialist/progressive excess will govern.

It will be a coup.
