We'd be 5th or 6th if not for the Orange Bowl last year, so it was a hefty one-year jump up the rankings.

meanwhile the basketball schools reap the rewards***

That's the rub....

May 31, 2012, 8:30 AM

You've got 3 schools bringing in the dough and the rest are enjoying the fruits of our labor. The worst part of it is that we will be bringing in MUCH less than SEC schools going fwd, even if CU, FSU, VT and Mi. were all to return to prominence. It is time we make a move or get left further behind. Look at the extra millions pouring into Columbia right now and the improvements they are making with it. It sickens me to see folks on here say we should wait it out till the ACC teams get better. Even when they do, we will STILL be making far less. I trust Wilkins et al to do the right thing when the time comes. Hopefully the wait is almost over.

Way to go Duke ! $ 0.00 .... that should hold us for a while .

Earn $22.3m in 2011, and $33.7m in the last 7 years....

May 31, 2012, 8:41 AM

so we've only made around $10m in 6 years and 22+ in 1.

Makes me like Dabo a little more!

Wouldn't have figured all the distance between VT and everyone else though. Pretty staggering.

VT has appeard in five BCS bowl games since 2004

May 31, 2012, 9:21 AM

That is five BCS bowl game appearances in eight seasons which equates for the difference in the bowl revenue.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

I understand that.....

May 31, 2012, 11:27 AM

that was my point of liking Dabo to continue the trend of money making in short spurts. As did VT.

Was just not aware that VT had that much of an advantage.

But that's only $19.7M per team total, or $2.5M per year per team

May 31, 2012, 8:44 AM

How much of that money do you think Duke INVESTS in football? I'd say NONE.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Most of you.

No, they are investing a lot into football

I actually met a Duke football fan a few days ago--I didn't even think such a thing existed--and he was talking about Duke football like they're going to have a national championship in the next 5 years. He's sold on Cutliffe and thinks the coach will bring them at least into competitiveness with major FBS teams. He also said they're doing a ton of facilities improvements. I have never in my life seen someone so excited (and/or deluded) about Duke football. I was in shock.

VT only received $6 million for the Sugar Bowl last year?

May 31, 2012, 9:13 AM

The payout for the 2012 Sugar Bowl was $17 million per team. At least that's what Michigan received.

May 31, 2012, 9:17 AM

a second team from the same conference gets much less of a payout. I guess that is to keep the SEC from buying everyone

Thanks for this post.

May 31, 2012, 10:23 AM

This is what I have been wondering. People around here keep complaining about having to share bowl revenue with other conference members, but they don't realize the fact that we have benefited from it just as much as any other team in the conference. Especially when you consider what our number is without the orange bowl last season.
