Bridge collapse could impact game traffic Saturday ...

Nov 6, 2012, 8:45 AM

CENTRAL, SC (FOX Carolina) - Dispatchers said a highly traveled bridge in Central collapsed, forcing it to be closed until it can be repaired.

Pickens County dispatchers said the 18 Mile Road bridge collapsed and drivers are being re-routed onto U.S. 123 to Issaqueena Trail or through Liberty. The bridge is not the one that crosses over 123 near the Walmart but is just before it over the creek, dispatchers said.

Dispatchers did not know when the road and bridge would be re-opened.

Firefighters told FOX Carolina's Cody Alcorn that Department of Transportation officials said the bridge was compromised underneath and would need to be replaced.

Sigh it would have been nice if instead of giving that big #### stimulus to his buddies he would have put more of it towards fixing our nations crumbling infrastructure.

The next 10 years you will start to see just how bad of shape our water and sewer systems are in America.

Currently there are about 800 Watermain breaks a day that number is only increasing.

I thought our governor wouldn't take the stimulus money that could have gone to this or am I mistaken? Just can't remember as it was 2 years ago.

money on it--it would be repaired and back up in 48 to 72 hours. I have seen that with a train wreck before. It looked like it would take a week or more but in 2 days it was all fixed and running again.
