Yo! Lunge health.net. Liver question.....

Aug 4, 2020, 5:38 PM

So I had a physical last week. Doc called me back a little while ago and I gotta go get an additional test because my liver enzymes were high. Anybuddy ever had similar?

Looked up all the normal stuff and I'm drawing a blank:

-Have probably had 10 total drinks in the last year
-Maybe 20 pounds tops over ideal weight so not a perfect specimen but not a fatty and no diebeetus.
-Cholesterol/HDL/LDL were perfect...heart looks ok.
-My life's pretty mundane so no loose women or street drugs...Hep is clear
-not on any scrips so nothing getting metabolized thru the liver

I'm stumped....anyjuan got a story or at least the ability to make fun of me in a creative way that takes my mind off the possibility of liver disease?

Money grab, have a gin and tonic and relax.***

Your post did draw a liver ad from our overlords

Aug 4, 2020, 5:45 PM

Do you take any statins?
Do you take acetaminophen?

I had the same issue last year, went dry for two weeks with no statins or acetaminophen and passed with flying colors.

When I went back this year, I again passed after having stopped the statins and doing way more exercise.

I didn’t read the part about

Aug 4, 2020, 5:47 PM

Doctor droogz

And when I say dry plus the others I mean no drinking and the rest, not just dry from storms and Tylenol

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No to both actually.

Aug 4, 2020, 5:52 PM [ in reply to Your post did draw a liver ad from our overlords ]

I've been hella active lately, and I saw where increased activity can spike them too.

Well then, I’m stumped

Liver best life?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think it's pretty obvious what's happening here.

Aug 4, 2020, 6:06 PM [ in reply to No to both actually. ]

You're merely adding to the pile of evidence that quitting drinking and becoming more active are both bad for you and really dumb and not fun.

No more alcohol for you. Very sad....***

What's maddening is that I pretty much went dry about

Aug 4, 2020, 5:54 PM

a year ago just to try and get healthier.

So after a year of no benders (which would have been a lot more fun), NOW I get a bad liver test? This is crap.

this is why i don't go to the doctor

Aug 4, 2020, 5:49 PM

well, that, and all the other reasons things you listed

i should probably go to the doctor....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Might be LiverRona

Aug 4, 2020, 5:50 PM

Drink 2 DIPAs and have s*chs behind 7-Eleven....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You’re not drinking enough.

Aug 4, 2020, 6:08 PM

Like all things, your liver needs to be exercised. Otherwise it atrophies and messes up your bloodwork.

Have a vodka tonic and put that sucker to work.

How high are we talking. Hepatocellular (AST/ALT) or cholestatic (Alk Phos/Bili)?

Aug 4, 2020, 6:40 PM

Hepatocellular 66 ALT and 43 AST

Sounds like I'm coming back for a NASH test?

That’s hardly elevated at all, I wouldn’t sweat it I much. Getting an ultrasound? Not unreasonable if insurance will pay for it. It’s not booze, it’s your weight, probably some very mild NASH. Can’t reverse NASH but you can stop progression w weight loss.

Thanks dood.

You're probably the coolest stoner doc I know, and I appreciate your expertise.

Time to get on the in-shape train.

Aug 4, 2020, 6:57 PM

Haha no problem. Though sadly I do stick to legal intoxicants these days. I’m a bariatric surgeon not a hepatologist so don’t take my word for scripture, but I do see and treat real deal NASH every day. Obesity and metabolic syndrome is my mortal enemy.

My cousin did the exact same thing/scenario. He hasn’t been drinking for nearly two years and great health. Baller mountain biker. Still high numbers

If you have any mild trauma

Aug 4, 2020, 8:14 PM

Soreness from working out, bad shoulder (what I have) or any inflammation can lead to a high level

I also have a mild case of fatty liver due to my fat ### but doc said to watch it but not worry
