Try making a list about most consistent actor over time....
Apr 25, 2013, 3:51 PM
|
|
It'll be a smaller and easier list to make I think.
Taking your list as an example:
From your list: Lemmon Nicholson Hackman (is basically retired, so he isn't tarnishing his legacy) Olivier (maybe? I honestly haven't seen enough of his films, as I thought he was too much of a "stage actor" to be good in movies.)
Too soon to tell: Day-Lewis Hanks (I have serious doubts about him moving forward) Denzel (more action leading man, needs to do more drama like he did early in his career)
Actors that were great in their generation but not so much anymore:
Pacino DeNiro Duvall Hoffman Poitier Brando (!) Hopkins
Other: Newman- Not sure where to put him. I think with Hackman but he retired well before Hackman Tommy Lee: Great at playing grumpy old man (Walter Matthau) Ed Norton: Had a great start to career, but hasn't sustained it Ben Kingsley: One of the most up and down actors ever (good idea for another list) Johnny Depp: Has a HUGE crutch in never being out of some sort of makeup from which he can hide behind. Morgan Freeman: GREATEST voice-over actor ever. Tim Robbins: Really good actor, not sure about iconic leading man.
I'd add Eastwood, Jimmy Stewart, Henry Fonda, Sean Connery, and Harrison Ford. It's hard to pick new guys, but if I had to I would put Cruise and maybe DiCaprio. (DiCaprio has had the benefit of constantly working with GREAT directors.)

Are you talking about "leading men", or just male actors?
Apr 25, 2013, 3:55 PM
|
|
Because I don't think Lemmon, Duvall, or Hackman would be considered lead actors. Also, Hanks isn't there yet. Replace him and the other three with Paul Newman, Sydney Poitier, Jeff Bridges, and Warren Beatty, and you got yourself a decent list.
