Usually works out that way. That's why it's important to get into a regional where you are familiar with the course.

FYI, after round 1 Vandy is 9 under par (leading) and Clemson is even (5th place). On par 5's, Vandy is 8 under and Clemson is even. Need to capitalize on the par 5's the next 2 days.

I agree with you about par 5's. I recall years ago when

May 15, 2017, 7:20 PM

courses were shorter (probably by 500 yards) and Davis Love was a long hitter at the time, his UNC coach told him, "You should birdie all par fives so you start your round four under." Worst thing a scratch golfer can do is bogie a five.

One of our guys (that counted) tripled a par 5 today...but he eagled one also. He eagled #2 and tripled #11. I'm not familiar with the course, but it appears these par 5's might tempt you to take chances and if you miss, disaster. Might need to play for tight approach shots that result in birdies instead of possible eagles...I have no idea, but I'm sure the coach knows what happened. I expect they will play better the next couple of days.

My brother played at Clemson during the DL3 years

My brother was 5'9" and 150 pounds soaking wet. He won a tournament once paired with Davis in the final round. Davis was hitting wedges into holes where my brother was hitting long irons. He didn't know what to think.

I went to basically every tournament, including ACC and NCAA. In addition to DL3, saw Billy Andrade, Billy Mayfair, Nolan Henke, Scott Verplank, Brian Watts, Charlie Rymer (Golf Channel), Bill McDonald (Coot coach), and many others.

Washington not playing well in their regional.
And Purdue is in 5th in their regional.

But the others are being dominated by the "hosts" (nearly 6 strokes better than 2nd place).
