Sad to hear this. Makes you wonder about the old saying of things happening in threes

That was the same thing that crossed my mind.

I knew Wayne as we were in the same graduating class at Clemson. He was from Sumter and I knew him from a lot of my Sumter friends and from the weightlifting club. I always liked Wayne and he was a fine player.

* PS: The article is incorrect about Clemson All-Americans in the 60's. Harry Olszewski was a consensus All-American in 1967.

Mass and Harry O, two of my favorites. Opened a lot of holes for Buddy Gore.

Dang..I interviewed & wrote about Randy Smith & Wayne Mass!

Both extremely nice guys and a pleasure to interview in 1965.

Too young at 75 & 73 to be leaving us.

Offering a firm Clemson Military Salute to both!

I'm am so sorry to hear about the passing of both Wayne Mass & Randy Smith. I was the starting Offensive Guard on the '65 & '66 team. I knew both of these fellows very well. Of the five offensive line starters from the '65 team only two of us are still alive.

You guys were my heroes. All my team mates wanted the glamour positions. I wanted to be an offensive guard. I guess Harry O was my favorite, But everybody new Wayne Mass.

As soon as I saw the headline, I thought "Not Mass!"

We lived on the same hall in the D tin cans when I was a freshman. He was quite a character - I remember him running off the field (prancing actually) pointing to blood on his uniform and pointing back to the field to show it came from the NCSt All Everything defensive lineman who he was matched up with. Also remember him almost tearing down the metal wall of his room when someone intentionally locked him out. He was a Playboy magazine All American along with Harry O. and made everyone rush out for the copies as soon as they arrived at the downtown drugstore ( of course that was common practice every month anyway).

My husband was just remembering that ncst game. Wayne and Harry O were great players. We lived in married student housing in 1966 and I remember we lived next to a player named Kit, can't remember his last name. We were so broke and I remember being jealous of the "laundry money" they got.

Way too young. Makes me realize how little we have in this life. I thank my maker every day and then give him an extra thanks for letting me live through this unprecedented era of Clemson sports.

A Clemson man needs no introduction. You’ll be missed Wayne. Rest easy my friend!

Had several classes with Wayne and Butch Sursavage. Both were good guys. Sorry to hear about his passing. RIP my friend.
