That was an inspirational story

Dec 18, 2011, 10:41 AM

As a long ago Daniel grad, i was a big fan of Austin, along with Smith, Young, Jenkins, and now Hopkins, Williams, Lawson, etc. Other than West himself, Austin may have been the biggest victim of the coaching transition. It seemed Bowden, Rodriguez, and Burns didn't really give him a chance with the new offense; it was almost as if they had their minds made up early. Austin was a power runner and they apparently wanted more of the finesse guy in Zachery. But i never heard about the mind games or the animosity and missed the Dan Scott episode back in the summer - must have been intense.

Anyway, his family has been through a lot with what happened to his older brother and i think Terry Smith was related somehow. Great to see things working out for Javis and his family and friends and that he is making a difference in the lives of kids and others; that is a very inspirational story.

article. Wish Mike Bellamy would work with Javis & his kids during the "off" season.

Yes and I also suggest they read the original article Bob Gillespie wrote in 2003. It is linked from today's article in The State. Best of Luck to Javis.
