Syracuse long TD run question?

Oct 6, 2013, 7:55 AM

Was it Tony Steward who didn't fill his gap on that play allowing them to bust that long TD run?

Looked like he overran it to the wrong gap then got blocked

to me. If he fills the right gap it's harder to get blocked and he's got the hole mostly filled to at least allow a little time for a teammate to help out. Where were our safeties though?

Believe it was same issue on both longer TD runs...linebackers kept getting sucked into the line and getting blocked.

Actually, guys, this one was my fault. We were sitting in end zone section 124 (right in the corner where Humphries made those catches), and my friend and I were discussing the possibility of going outside for a cigarette while the players were getting ready to snap the ball.

I said "well, we are on the boring side of the field, it's not like 'Cuse is going to sniff this end zone."

I finished the sentence just in time to watch the guy break free.

it was #7 but

I think that it was more in fact due to his limited playing time. More playing leads to better instincts in situations. Hes been that way alot this year because he wants to be a starter so badly that he tries too hard. But how can you tell a 5 star recruit to just let it flow when you came in as one of the best in the nation. I kind if feel sorry that because of injuries he is way behind Anthony in terms of knowledge and fundamentals.

Also blanks completely went left when the ball was snapped

With nothing that should have had him that far out of position as the last line of defense.

In TS's defense, I thought the center made one #### of a block. The center came out strong and made the block prior to TS shedding the block. If TS goes one way, the RB just goes the other. It did not matter which gap TS covered.

Of course - that's JMO, but I watched it over and over to see what could be improved, and I don't think it would have mattered due to the center begin so aggressive on that block.
