Surprise Clemson connection

Out in Western Missouri and visiting the 1808 site of Fort Osage. The first commander at the fort was Captain Eli Clemson a distant family relative of the Thomas Green Clemson family in Pennsylvania. Go Tigers!!!!

Site was built across the river from Lewis and Clark camp site on the Missouri several years after expedition. Clark looking across the river thought the area would be a great place to put a fort because it overlooks the river. It is one of the starting points and is on the current Santa Fe Trail.
