Suggestions for a fine dining restaurant in Charleston...

Sep 16, 2015, 2:35 PM

I know this gets brought up on here at least once every couple years. I was hoping to get some recent feedback from those in the area. Looking for good seafood and steak.

Thanks in advance!

Langdon's in Mt. Pleasant is my favorite.

Pricey, but I've never left and felt it wasn't worth it.

Magnolias, Cypress, Hanks, Blossom

Sep 16, 2015, 2:42 PM

I lived there for 6 years and there are many great places.

Hanks is very good, Mags has some really good southern dining. Cypress is high class, and Blossom is a very good place for a local seafood lunch.

Went to The Granary last night in Mt. P and it was awesome. Highly recommend and it has a relaxed but nice atmosphere.

Don't get suckered into over paying at those places that claim they have great seafood, but then don't even give you any cheddar bay biscuits. Scams.

Just a different atmosphere and clientele from your typical bar scene. And of course, the beer is excellent.

Best steaks in Charleston. But pricey. If you like Mexican foods, Minero is a great upscale option. I crave the pollo fundido all the time

Depends on where you go

Sep 16, 2015, 3:22 PM

To me, the best seafood will be in Downtown or Mt. Pleasant.

Downtown
Slightly North of Broad (SNOB) usually has some good seafood. Their menus change every so often.
Avoid Hymans.
Blossom is good.
Grill 225 is great.
Husk is always a good choice.
FIG is supposed to be good. I've never had it

Mt Pleasant
Bartons is one of my favorite restaurants. If they have swordfish, I highly recommend it.
Page's Okra Grill (not fancy, but great)
The restaurants on Shem Creek are always tasty as well.

Enjoy Charleston!

Everyone else suggested nice restaurants but since you are

Sep 16, 2015, 3:40 PM

asking about fine dining, I will help you out. There is really only one fine dining restaurant in Charleston, which is McCrady's. It is about as close as you can get to "fine dining" in Charleston. Comparible to Tzec TJ's in Mountain View, CA or Craigies on Main in Boston, MA, Twist (at the Mandarin Oriental in Las Vegas), or some of the LA and NY restaurants. Seven courses should have you walking out plenty full. And it is all high grade.

If you were just looking for a good seafood place, please disregard this post. Just trying to help out (from a former [long time ago chef] and foodie).

I'd say Charleston Grill and Magnolias are both pretty close to that criteria as well.

From Charleston originally, tried out Crave for the first time in Mt. P's last year.

Wide variety of American food. Ambience is mediocre, but the food....oh dear lord.

I could eat that mac n cheese every day for dessert for at least a week. Maybe two. Holy cow. Everything my wife and I ate was delicous.

I hear Husk is off the charts good. They have a knife maker who brings out a selection of steak knives for you to choose from when u order.
