Strange question...who here is in their "forever" house?

Dec 26, 2012, 3:10 PM

The one you plan to grow old in and not sell unless forced to?

The wife and I were talking about what we wanted in our "forever" house (as she put it) the other day, and I just wondered who was at that point.

probably in my "forever" house. If I get out from under this one, I'll fight like hell to never be in this situation again.

Been in mine for 24 years. About ready to down size, but the wife is not.

Been in mine since 1989.

Dec 26, 2012, 3:40 PM

Every time the subject of moving came up, we realized we couldn't get what we've got anywhere else. Each time, we would spent pooploads of money doing stuff to the house instead.

Trying to if those douchenozzles at Fannie Mae would approve my offer.

that IS a strange question...

I'm too lazy to move not to mention repairing the house

Dec 26, 2012, 3:52 PM

in order to sell it. So I am.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thats a very difficult to plan.

Dec 26, 2012, 5:07 PM

I never intended to be in my previous house as long as I was.

I thought I would have been able to move to Clemson 5-7 years ago. It hasn't worked out, and I've finally accepted that it probably won't happen. So I'll probably stay in this one as long as I have a job here--which could be 10 days or 10 years.

As I said..difficult to plan.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agreed.***

BTW - did your wife go to Clemson?

Dec 26, 2012, 6:02 PM [ in reply to Thats a very difficult to plan. ]

It's a hard sell as a place to get folks to move to, unless they have a financial reason or emotional tie I would guess. Just wondering if you had a hard time convincing her to agree to move there when you were talking about it.

Although, if you spend some time there, especially on the lakes, it grows on you pretty quickly.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Let me see if I can convince the coot to move there.

We've been up there quite a bit.

She actually went to USC.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Probably will be leaving this one feet first. I hope it can

Dec 26, 2012, 6:22 PM

Dec 26, 2012, 6:32 PM

commercial taxes on the area your neighborhood is located. Charlotte and Atlanta have taxed a LOT of beautiful old homes out of the market to develop and collect on a higher tax base over the years.

ringofhonor-rhtig.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, I would hang on to that place.***

We're "planning" for it to be, but.......

Dec 26, 2012, 6:34 PM

I sometimes wonder why in the hell the two of us need 2,400 sf. Since the kids departed, we only use about half of it. Well, except for when we chase each other around the other parts of the house rediscovering some semblance of our youth (Sorry to post that part so close to supper).

I would actually prefer a small cabin towards the mountains not too far outside of Clemson.

On the other hand, if our kids would get busy, we could fill the entire 2,400 sf with grandchillens.

We're becoming more impulsive with our decisions in life, so who knows.

not sure about the forever thing.

That would be in The SC Lowcountry when the dems take
control again

Corporations are people. So is Soylent Green.

I guess that means you will never be coming back to SC.

Dec 27, 2012, 6:52 AM

a foster dog or cat goes once someone stupid enough to adopt them comes along.:)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Probably unless downsize after kids gone (long time away) to

Dec 27, 2012, 8:51 AM

avoid them coming back.

My parents have been in the same house since the 70s. Since they have so much stuff my Dad says only way he's leaving is feet first to avoid the mother of all moves.

I'll let you know when the estate sale happens (hopefully in the distant future) because I'm not moving all that stuff either.

Re: Strange question...who here is in their "forever" house?

Dec 27, 2012, 9:02 AM

The love of the people in the house is all I plan to stick with forever. A house is just an object.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My parents are still in the house they built in '75. I will

Dec 27, 2012, 10:14 AM

be sad the day it is sold. It is more than a "house", it is "home".

The house I grew up in as a kid

Dec 27, 2012, 10:28 AM [ in reply to Re: Strange question...who here is in their "forever" house? ]

was much more than an "object" to our family.

To each his own, I guess.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I kind of think the same as Lumbee.

Dec 27, 2012, 1:48 PM

Neighborhoods change, houses go into disrepair; sometimes its just better to leave for a new start.

I don't get attached much to houses. They come and go.
