Steward

Oct 25, 2012, 2:13 PM

Anyone heard any validation for the rumor that Steward may get the nod tonight at one of the LB spots? I saw a couple posts on that yesterday and just wondered if there's any substance to it. Gotta take everything you read on here with a grade of slaw.

it seems to be true however I'm hearing conflicting reports

Oct 25, 2012, 2:14 PM

on if its at Sam or Will.

Re: it seems to be true however I'm hearing conflicting reports

Oct 25, 2012, 2:15 PM

You'd think WILL right? Steward's body type seems a little big to be a SAM, don't we use that position as a sort of coverage/LB hybrid?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

well from a position standpoint I'd think will but from a

Oct 25, 2012, 2:16 PM

need standpoint i'd think Sam, because willard hasn't been the issue....

So i'm really not sure it all seems kinda strange

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"strange" is a pretty good word to describe our defense

this year. Theres some wierd things going on

there seems to be a struggle with assessing where people

belong which in turn adds on to the struggle to pick up the scheme. We talk about how guys need time to learn, but then we move them around and don't understand that only complicates their ability to learn.......we really need to figure out sooner in guys careers where they belong and run with it. Obviously there will always be some changes but we seem to have a chronic problem with this.

Re: there seems to be a struggle with assessing where people

Oct 25, 2012, 2:24 PM

Yeah I agree to a point. I will say that I think most of the shuffling over the last couple of years has had a lot to do with a lack of quality depth. Seems like some of the backups just haven't developed as the coaches wanted, so they're forced to move around and cross-train the starters who are playing at a higher level

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I dont think its finding out where the guys play best

Oct 25, 2012, 3:00 PM [ in reply to there seems to be a struggle with assessing where people ]

but finding out which guys fill needs on the field best. Like moving Brewer back to CB, he may be a better safety than CB, but we need him at CB, so thats where he has to play

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Who are Sam and Will...

Oct 25, 2012, 2:37 PM [ in reply to it seems to be true however I'm hearing conflicting reports ]

and can they tackle????

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Who are Sam and Will...

Oct 25, 2012, 2:38 PM

You can find them on the field somewhere on gamedays. They usually hang out with Mike.

i've heard ZERO validation...seems to be a rumor and thats all.

I'm not opposed to him seeing more playing time just not sure where at this poing with shuey and willard playing well and christian not having a bad game last week.

Re: Steward

IMO the best chance at this being true would be for us to start the game in a 3-4 defense with him being the 2nd MLB. This would most likely be counting on Steward and Shuey stopping the run and leaving Tig and Christian/Blanks to focus more on the pass.

Re: Steward

Oct 25, 2012, 2:26 PM

Man, I'd love to see us run more 3-4, that odd front seems to really give some offensive lines (*cough* Clemson's *cough*) fits. I just don't know if we've got the big beefeaters up front on D to run a 3-4 yet.

Watkins Reader Williams is enough beef I think. And bring in Goodman and Crawford on 3rd and passing distance and go to a 2-4-5 D the olb being the standup ends.

Are you guys forgetting about Watson??

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Re: Reader playing well can fill the NT spot***

Oct 25, 2012, 2:51 PM

Not a knock on Watson but he would be in the mix for DE. He doesn't have the body type to play the NT spot in a 3-4

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Hear he is starting at WR in Sammy's place.***
