Ironic that you say that. Watson will be learning under " essentially " an extension of the Walsh tree, in most ways. If Watson can take the playbook/verbiage and simplify, like Montana did, then Watson will be a hero in Texas in due time. Lot's to be said about that playbook and play calling in the huddle, but I'll just leave it with, Watson. If anyone has the talent and intelligence to do it, it's Watson.

My Take

Agree Atech

He's in the perfect system for his abilities. If he can master the playbook he will flourish in Houston.

One other thing to remember. I don't yhink Watson was ever completely comfortable last year with the strength he gained from his sophmore to junior year. He never was quite as accurate as he was in the previous 2 years. You saw flashes, but not as consistent.

That will come though, and he will need that extra zip in the NFL. In the West Coast offense you need a nimble footed QB that can move around, plant his foot, and fire those post & seem routes with the right timing, & also throw on the run. You saw a glimpse of it when he hit Leggett down the middle against bama.

That's where i think a lot of the pundits were missing the boat on DW4 in their criticism. They said he wasn't accurate, which was somewhat true, but they didn't realize why. DW4's whole life will be football now, and one he adjusts to his new found strength & gets the playbook down he's gonna tear it up.

Steve Young 2.0 actually

Watson is more dynamic athlete than Montana, just like Young was. DW definitely has high leadership and come-from-behind skills. I'm not ready to put him at Montana level (i.e. GOAT for those two traits) yet.
