Sterling Johnson listed as an underrated recruit

Feb 12, 2015, 9:02 AM

Sterling Johnson - DT - Clemson - 373rd overall, #24 DT

Clemson won a huge battle landing this guy over competitors like Alabama, Florida, and Florida State. Sterling said he wanted to be a Clemson Tiger over all of the rest and I'm sure Dabo Swinney is more than happy to have him on board. This guy is huge and wrecks absolute havoc up the middle at 6-5, 281. This is another case where all the biggest schools down south saw something in him that apparently the recruiting boards did not. I can't believe this guy is a 3-star, it is no wonder Clemson always has good defensive lines if this is the type of "3 star" defensive linemen they get.

He is the DL I am least sold on. Doesn't play with good leverage and doesn't seem to just blow people of the ball. I see him moving to OL.

I like his first step. He doesn't play with great leverage but that is a problem many talented high school kids have because they don't need great pad level to win at the point of attack because they are so athletic. You cannot teach his size and athleticism. I didn't know he had Bama and FSU offers. I do view him as an underrated player. I believe prior to his committing that he was a top 200 player by at least 1 service.

can we let coach brooks work with him first?***

Sterling is gonna provide good depth in the future for us. I think he's underrated as well. Brooks is gonna teach him things to help him along

His film looks a lot like battles did coming out of hs. Remember battle played DE.

battle was recruited as a OT by clemson.

so, is it ok if johnson gets some coaching from dan brooks first at the position sterling was recruited to play?

i think the defensive staff has done an ok to decent job to date.

I agree

but the potential to be great is there. Can't teach size and speed but you can teach technique!

when I saw his footage the 1st time, I thought he looked like a top #10 DT, Nationally.

So, no surprise here ^
