Front Page Story: No surprise to Dabo that media touts FSU again

No surprise to Dabo that media touts FSU again

It came as no surprise that the media, which loves to gush and fawn over the Seminoles each season, picked them once again to win the ACC. The good news - the media is almost never right. Full Story »

media has been right 2 out of 8 times---25%. That's pretty

Jul 25, 2012, 11:53 AM

good, it's no Phil Steele but they are a bunch of amateurs---right Bart.

Better than that actually. They were right 2 out of the 6 times they picked FSU/Tech so it's more like 33%.

If they pick them enough, eventually the media will be right!

This might be the only time I get a chance to say this

Jul 25, 2012, 12:15 PM

I agree with Dabo!

Pulling a Clemson should be Pulling a FSU

Jul 25, 2012, 12:35 PM

They are always ranked higher then they deserve and over hyped as being "Back" yet year in and year out they fail to produce on the field despite having better overall talent then everyone in the conference with the only close rival being Clemson. Always ranked in the top 5-10 year in and year out and do NOTHING with it on the field.

Any unbiased observer would have to pick FSU. We lost

Jul 25, 2012, 12:41 PM

too many key people upfront. FSU will have on paper, arguably, the best DL in the country.

Plus, they have us at home and have one of the best kickers in the country which could help in a close game.

Still, I think we do okay against them. Do we win? Maybe.

the totals at the bottom for championship combinations don't

Jul 25, 2012, 1:02 PM

seem to make sense. FSU has 72 atlantic first place votes but is in at least 76 title combinations. CU has 17 first place votes-- it seems that there would be quite a few of those predicting CU over VT more so than GT???

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

FSU is a smart pick and I'm glad they didn't pick Clemson.

Jul 25, 2012, 1:21 PM

FSU has an edge over Clemson for player-talent and the CU-FSU game is at Doak, so FSU is a smart pick. Heck, last season, if the media had known that QB EJ Manuel, CB Greg Reid, and five of FSU's WRs would be out with injuries for the Clemson game, the media probably would have picked Clemson to win the Atlantic.

Clemson doesn't seem to handle media hype well so I'm glad that the media didn't pick Clemson. I'd rather see them train with a chip on their shoulders.

Couldn't agree more. Every year that there are really high expectations we seem to fall well short. Also, I hope we don't come in to the season to highly ranked....somewhere between 15-20 would be a fine preseason ranking to me

In the last 10 years....

Jul 25, 2012, 1:26 PM

NO...NO other team in the country has been MORE
over rated than Fla State. So yea,let em have it.
Alil' preseason glory is all they're going get.

Stassen's data for last 10yrs confirms that. Pulling an FSU?

no respect for clemson it seems like the national media wants to revive the days of old when miami, florida state and virginia tech were releveant in football.

I had to laugh at the whole Va Tech being included in the days of old comment. The thing is I don't know if I am laughing at myself or the poster. When I was a student I went to a Va Tech game only because my room mate lived in Virginia. We smoked them 35-10 in a lopsided affair against a cream-puff that finally got their home-and-home series. So......."days of old"? Kindly define days of old please lol.

My feeble attempt at humor aside-I have issues with the way the ACC media views football. Specifically the voted preseason conference standings. In the Atlantic I have no problem with FSU Clemson and NC State. Maryland in last place??? Edsell is a really good coach and Maryland has some decent players. I just don't see Wake and BC being ahead of them this year. BC looks to me like a program sinking with a captain that has lost his way.
On the Coastal side- What in the world?! Virginia in fourth place????? UNC may still have athletes but they have a new coach and Fedora is good but is ain't no Saban. Ga Tech's offense has been seen enought now that there will be no surprises not to mention that there didn't seem to be any huge upgrade in talent there. I think they are in for a drop-off this year. I say UVa is second UNC is third and Ga Tech is fourth.

Maryland went 2-10 last year and has a perception problem

Jul 26, 2012, 9:54 AM

Players jumping ship after last season didn't help their image much.
