Squeaking by vs winning decisively

Jan 13, 2016, 6:34 PM

Everybody knows we went 14-1 so stop pointing out how many games were won this year. We need to factor in how many of the wins were nailbiters. When we can consistently put teams away, I'll know that the Tigers are back ala the 80's.

Coot never watched '80s Clemson FB! Every year ....

Jan 13, 2016, 6:40 PM

We had a few close wins ... And even mysterious losses such as NCSU, Va Tech and even Duke.

Must suck going 3-9

How many times games were we behind in the fourth quarter? Once.

Brad Brownell: more losses than any other coach in school history.

Horrid pulse algorithms promote reincarnations, they go hand in sock?

I wasn't even alive in the 80s

Jan 13, 2016, 6:42 PM

And I know that the Ford squads had some close calls, and even unexplainable losses.

Clemson could have beat Bama by 1...

Jan 13, 2016, 6:42 PM

And I'd be fine with it.

Would you?

You have no idea what you're talking about

Jan 13, 2016, 6:49 PM

We didn't put away everybody away decisively in the 80's. We had plenty of close games and near misses every single year. We even had 5 wins by 10 or less during our 1981 National Championship year including a nail biter against unranked TULANE.

Our best records (other than 1981) in the 80's were back-to-back 9-1-1 seasons in 1982-83. We had 2 or more losses every other year in the 80's. We even went 6-6 in 1984 with a loss in the Independence Bowl.

We won a lot of ACC titles in the 1980s, but it was a lot easier back then to win an ACC. Dabo Swinney is consistently taking us to the Orange Bowl (3 times) and now the college football playoffs. Other than the 1982 Orange Bowl, we only appeared in second tier bowls the rest of the 1980s (Citrus, Gator, Independence).

THESE ARE THE GOOD OLE DAYS

I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me.

I stand corrected on the 80's victories. I guess I should have said decisively like FSU in 2013.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Do you even realize how rare a season like that is?

Jan 13, 2016, 8:23 PM

And even as good as they were, they had to win a nail biter against Auburn in the title game.

Aren't you late to work at Bojangles?

Coot. We beat UNCheat 10-8 the year we won it all. Go away.
