Spurrier’s jab at Clowney merely motivation?

Aug 16, 2013, 11:20 AM

12:15 pm August 14, 2013, by Andy Johnston

I’m not buying Steve Spurrier’s explanation that a “communication problem” caused star DE Jadveon Clowney and two injured receivers to miss a recent practice.

Spurrier is a Jedi master when it comes to the subtle jab, and that simply was his way of reminding Clowney, a Heisman hopeful with a bruised shoulder, that he better focus on football.

Spurrier’s first comments according to The (Columbia, S.C.) State:

“If (Clowney’s shoulder) doesn’t come around real soon, we may play without him the first game. We’ve got a bunch of hurt guys who act like they are really hurt so right now they may not play. … I’ll handle those guys. We’re not depending on them. We can still field a team.”

Spurrier on Tuesday:

“They had a communication problem. They didn’t know they were supposed to be out here watching practice, so I’m the dummy on that. Now they know they’re going to be out here watching practice. We had a communication problem and we’re ready to go.”

Yeah, right, coach.

Spurrier can take the blame all he wants.

If Clowney needed a reminder that there’s a season to be played before he can start hoisting hardware, it was received.

Of course it was merely for motivation. No way that Clowney will miss games unless he tears an ACL or something like that.

I hate Spurrier but I admit his recent media interviews have been pretty funny. No player on his team is safe from the OBS possibly throwing them under the bus in the media.

This kind of stuff is why players leave SCAR early.***

I can think of a MILLION reasons why.....

Aug 16, 2013, 1:35 PM

players would want to leave Carolina early.

Spurrier’s jab is merely....

Aug 16, 2013, 11:46 AM

a case of Spurrier being royal @$$hat as usual.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

You know it has to be eating at him

to not be the first thing folks talk about when coot football comes up. Clowney has totally overshadowed the head ball sack unlike any other player he has coached in college IMHO.

Yep, its Spurrier being Spurrier --- a first class ####.***

Here's the most telling part of this story and again what

Aug 16, 2013, 12:01 PM

sets Clemson apart from So. Carolina is that there was even a question that he didn't have to be at practice while hurt. I know players rehab or hit the "beach" at Clemson, but I have never heard of players just taking some time off while dinged up.

hurt." Can you hear what Spurrier (who butchers the English language every time he opens his mouth) is really saying? He is saying Clowney and others are not really that hurt. Certainly not too hurt to skip coming to practice. Clowney is acting like a prima donna. No shock there.

i think sos was ok with clowney not showing up, it was when

some other guys started doing the same thing, that the 'ol ball sack started bit*****. only his "star" can get away with that!

Not really thinking more about the Me and not the Team or JC
OBS does not care if a player is hurt just look back to CS & ML last year
What will OBS be saying when JC goes down
