VT fans

How are your special teams this year? I know you've always been known to have good ST. Any blocked kicks? Placekicker? I read another post about your punter.

The secret to their special teams was

directly related to the goiter on ol' Beamer. Now that he's gone....the magic has diminished

Didn't their special teams coach Frank Bannon retire?

Special teams have been mostly good. One Blocked kick, one Punt Return for a touchdown, one really big KO return against WVU. new Punter is Australian and good, Kicker leads the nation in kickoff returns for no return at something obscene like 95%, normally our kicker is automatic within the 40 but has been inconsistent this year, think he has a new holder? But not sure what the issue is. Punt Returner is Greg Stroman and is very good, but sometimes takes unneeded big hits when he should just fair catch

Playing penalty free football and good special teams probably saved us from going to OT against WVU. Special teams coach is James Shibest, has a very good reputation for special teams. I'd expect some sort of trick play to help even the game as ST is one of two areas I'd give VT the edge in.

Special Teams are still pretty good

Kicking has been a bit hit or miss this season, but Joey Slye has been a very good kicker in his first three years. Hopefully he shakes it off. Our new punter looks solid.

The new STs coordinator is James Shibest, who was also the man who coordinated the STs at Arkansas and Ole Miss under Houston Nutt. Nutt's Arkansas teams in particular were typically very well thought of on STs.
