My Wife Says All This Conference Realignment "Stuff" Is ....

Stupid ...I agree... in the longer term, its going to destroy the game. Much like the Wall Street view of short term gain at all cost has/is destroying the U.S. Economy (I digress). MANY people have said the fair and sensible solution is to merely have a true playoff where conference winners + 4 wildcards meet in a playoff and may the best team win. The argument that this scenario "destroys the importance of the regular season" is pure B.S. Now, the money changers are going to get very rich off this scheme, but what happens to the game? Clemson associated with a team in Iowa? Wouldn't you rather see Clemson win the ACC, then have the opportunity to play these other teams in a National Tournament? The FCS has had a playoff system for a long while now, and it works very well... the FBS just ignores it. This is one thing I wish the FEDS would get involved in, looks like a classic case of monopolization. For you Clemson Students (or fans) who do not know what a monopoly is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monopoly

I am not a liberal. I am someone who enjoys College Football much more then Pro Football and I see the game being destroyed. So you like opinion polls, ranking, and Computer algorithms. Why are you so afraid of a tournament? Don't give me the argument that the extra games would take away from the Lads learning experience ... give me a break.

4 team playoff... 4 Super Conferences... H'mmmmm I wonder who would get to play....
A team like Houston in one of the lowly Conferences goes 12-0, polite golf clap and watch yet another thrilling Alabama vs LSU type of game .... I fell asleep on the couch watching that one ... I know, it was a battle of defense, Oregon Mighty Ducks would have kicked their butt.

stay home - if it's simply about watching a game. That's definitely a trend as technology and more distribution channels become available. ESPN3 on my son's XBOX is AMAZING quality - better than Raycom broadcasts. With internet quality now at HD level, there's basically limitless channels to carry every game in full, crisp, living color. Having a competitive and attractive home schedule, and being good, have more importance than ever.

We Digress, but we had lax regulation of the banks and guess what happened, it was about 5 years a go..... collapsing economy, housing bubble, remember that? Free market capitolism works great, except when the greed factor kicks in and all of a sudden, the game is rigged. But again!, we digress, I SAY, Let there be a tournament amongst the finest teams in the land (more then 4 for sure), and may the best team win!

Well it was actually regulations from Jimmy Carter

Then Bill Clinton called the CRA (community reinvestment act). It's purpose was to stop "red lining" of poor communities led to banks at first having to lend money to people in areas where it was a losing proposition. Then the banks figured out this game that they could use Quasi Goverment intities called Freddie and Fannie Mac (led by chief lib Barney Frank) to purchase bundles of their bad loans to later be sold off as bonds to others. So the banks as you put it did get greedy after they figured they good just use the Goverments programs to their advantage. It is really quite funny when you think about all the help that the private sector got from the public sector in destroying our economy.
But those are just silly facts. I believe it was greed on the part of banks, people trying buy more than they can afford, and the Goverment for interfering in the first place. So really all are to blame.

You are just spouting nonsense you've read in the Obama media. Unfortunately too many people believe everything the government and the media tell them.
It was too much government intervention that caused all this, not too little.
Of course the gov't and leftist media know people like you envy rich and will believe that garbage you mindlessly repeat.

Have you lost your mind? BMW did not get any bailouts nor did they need it. All they did was give Chrysler and Chevy to the Unions. Saturn was GM's best selling line of cars and they closed the plants because they were non union. You really need to quit listening to Al Sharpton and Cooper Anderson for sure

Dear Armsb, sorry for the tardy reply, I just noticed your post.... I am voting for the best man for the job.... I liked a lot (not all) of what Ron Paul has to say, but he has a snowball chance in hades of getting elected. If you want to know what party I like, its the Bull Moose Party, but they haven't put anybody up since the early 1900's... Am I Kool-Aid Drinker of the Republican Party? HECK NO, they were kinda' sorta' a disaster last go round ... Am I Democrat? HECK NO, they are too (overall), weird. So I guess I am an Independent, make up my own mind, really skeptical of what is fed to the masses by the mass media. Big on States Rights (see 10th Amendment), regulation of the shysters of Wall Street, I believe Globalization is a big excuse to sell off U.S. assets so a few could get very rich. Big on the "German Model" in Economics (look it up)

idiotic liberals think had JFK lived he would have gotten us out of Vietnam, when it was JFK that got us knee deep in it to start with.
Why we let the French drag us into their mess in Vietnam to start with is beyond me. Eisenhower, however, really blew it. Ho Chi Minh went to the CIA and said he was more a nationalist than communist and wanted America's help to expel the French and support against the Chinese. Eisenhower said no and the rest is history.

I agree. A 16 team playoff is the only solution.
May 22, 2012, 9:41 AM
|

I cannot believe the NCAA would sit back and let college sports be ruined by a stop-gap, temporary 4-team football playoff structure. Honestly, is there any value in that organization anymore? They have no muscle whatsoever.
It was one thing when people didn't go absolutely psychotic about who the national champion was. We had a season of football, and it was fun. We played our rivals, and it was fun. We would schedule a couple of interesting OOC games against unusual opponents, and it was fun. If we did well enough, the team and fans were treated to a bowl game in a sunny, or at least interesting, location, and it was fun. If you won, you got to hang the "Emerald City Bowl" banner or whatever, no one made more of it than it was, but it was a nice way to end a fun season.
But now there seems to be this focus solely on "who is #1", which is odd considering that that's going to be one of 120 1A schools every year. But, if that's the way it goes, that's fine...every team must start the season with an avenue to the championship, which will be winning their conference.
Cut the regular season to 11 games, make regular season teams the conference champs, and play UP TO four games for the national championship. That's one more game (because you probably would save the regular season game, the conference championship and the bowl game) for just two teams. Not too much of a strain on the players or the fans.
It will never happen, of course, because people making the decisions care only about money...not at all about the fans or players.
