Question, admitted duck diynasty fan here

Dec 25, 2013, 11:48 AM

I heard the other day that they sell up to 30k duck calls a day since the show started airing and grossed 40 million last year.

are we really to believe that the 5 people that work there, sitting in that tiny room, make all those duck calls?

Of course they do - nothing about that show is staged,

Dec 25, 2013, 12:04 PM

scripted, or anything other than exactly what it appears to be. Just a family of good old boys, their wives and children, going about their normal, daily activities exactly as they always have, oblivious to cameras and film crews, and totally unaffected by the fact that they are making a TV show. Heck, I bet you or I could whittle out a few thousand duck calls a day if we'd been doing it as long as they have.

duck commander generates 40 million a year in revenue. they only employ 17 people, 7 are family members. Quite an operation they have there in west Monroe.

Go America!!

Dec 25, 2013, 2:53 PM

I'll see which one signed it. lol

My duck killin' days are over. My kids have taken ownership of the duck call lanyard.

I would be rather curious to know what is country is molded in the "made in" raised letters on the duck call.

ol balm thinks 1000 labor union knuckleheads should be employed there so they can kill the business in 9 months, when duck call prices reach $600 ea.

apparently math is not your strong suit. try running the numbers on a 40 million dollar profit and explain how hiring 100 employees to make 30k duck calls a day would run them out of business.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They would raise the prices to make up for the added payroll

Dec 26, 2013, 8:55 PM

tax and all the other stuff. Then they'd all cost too much for people to afford. Why do you think business are willing to just give up their margins for no reason? If 17 people can make the calls, it would be quite dumb to have 100 people do it.

Of course.

Willie started the business making hand made calls in a shed in his back yard for 20 years.

Now their facility in Louisiana is just a shipping depot to send out to distributors. The parts are made in China.

Back in my days of being in purchasing for a sporting goods store, we bought DC calls, but only because they were cheap. This was beforore it all exploded on TV and such. The guts in the call used to be Echo and the call itself was turned by duck commander. Not sure if that is still the same.

FYI...

Dec 26, 2013, 9:04 AM

There's no doubt that Duck Commander forever changed the duck calls with their early designs, but I'm afraid they've long since been passed in quality by a lot of others since they direction of the company has now turned to churning out the self-marketing swag rather than duck calls. We had this very conversation amongst our group Tuesday, and out of 8 people hunting, only 1 person had a single Duck Commander call on their lanyard. Like many things, it does seem to be a matter of personal opinion as to what works, but I see more long time duck hunters going in other directions, at least around here.
