Apparently my neighborhood is becoming a No Fun Zone

Jun 15, 2013, 4:06 PM

Latest email chain on the community announcement list...ugh...

No-fun-nick #1 starts it off...
i would like to get out in front of this year's 4th holiday. last year a great deal of debris from the celebration ended up in our pool. i know also personally of implications which required paid repairmen to fix following the "celebration". there was also an issue last year of clean up following the fireworks. there are only a few families who participate in the illegal fireworks and it is my hope this year, those of us who don't, will be spared the time consuming and costly clean up. as a homeowner in ******* i am legally entitled to enjoy my property peacefully and the Fourth of July has been a problem for years. i hope other homeowners would understand that their celebrations could conceivably cost other neighbors money in repairing the post-firework damage they cause.

rufkm? really?
no-fun-nick#2 joins in....

I have to second this. We had bits of debris coming down from our roof for several months following last year's July 4th. To this day, we still find bits here and there in our lawn and shrubs. We also had several scorch marks and stains from the residue, including damage to my wife's car. I know it's fun to do and enjoyable to watch, but as Julie said, it is technically illegal and a real nuisance for a long time following the event. I truly wish it weren't so, but the debris really is an issue.

Topped off by this gem...
In addition to the debris, I would like to remind everyone that we have new born babies and toddlers in the neighborhood. They go to bed early and they certainly have not been taken into consideration which is very sad considering parents and grown adults are behind the fireworks.

HAVE A GREAT DAY!

I have a toddler. And I have a 6 year old. I just accept the fact that they aren't getting to bed early that night. Jeebus. And, NO! I WILL NOT HAVE A GREAT DAY.

When we drink, we get drunk.
When we get drunk, we fall asleep.
When we fall asleep, we commit no sin.
When we commit no sin, we go to heaven.
So, let's all get drunk, and go to heaven!

The world record 48" (4 feet) in diameter shell from the Niigata prefecture (pictured below). This behemoth weighs about 900lbs and gets shot up over 1/2 mile high. Once it reaches full bloom it spans slightly less than 1/2 mile!

Sounds like you're in a nice neighborhood if the only problem is firework debris.

Speaking literally, of course.

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

the veiled-threat mention of them being illegal is a joke.

Jun 15, 2013, 6:41 PM

all the good fireworks are illegal in Va. Nothing that goes up in the air, nothing with report. So, sparkaly fountains. Whoopee. But besides our effort, you can see or hear 20 other shows, and I live in a remote area, less than 1/4 mile from the sheriff. Like they're going to arrest somebody.

That reminds me, I've got to make an emergency run to SC to stock up. Somehow I didn't last yr during football season.

If I might be so bold as to make a suggestion...

Jun 15, 2013, 9:58 PM

Sustained automatic weapon fire into the air leaves no debris if you just take a few minutes to pick up your brass.
