Someone explain football rules to me

Nov 2, 2020, 2:46 PM

Probably been discussed, but I don't come one her over the weekend much, so teach the ignorant.

In the 1st qtr vs BC, we got a def PI call in the end zone. Officials put the ball on the 2 yard line.

Later in the 2nd qtr, BC got a PI in the end zone, and the officials spotted the ball on like the 15 or something..half way to end zone.

What was the difference? Dabo didn't question it, so it must have been correct, but I'm too stupid to know, so that's why I ask.

Post like a mother in law day?

LOL, I don't know the answer either but your post is strangely passive-aggressive.

I think they all are

Its my only talent: being a passive aggressive C UNT without even meaning to be.

If only I could monetize it.

15 yard penalty

Nov 2, 2020, 2:50 PM

so it depends on where the ball was spotted when the play started. It's 15 yards from the spot, unless the play began at the 15 or closer. In that case it's half the distance to the goal line.

So if ball was placed on the 2, play must have started from the 4.

I think.

I don't think so

BC wasn't passing from the 4

I wondered the same thing and looked it up

PI in the end zone of a play starting between the 17 & 2 yard line goes to the 2.

PI in end zone of a play starting outside the 17, 15 yards

PI in enzone of play starting inside 2, 1/2 distance to the goal

spot of the foul

In college, the penalty for defensive pass interference is 15 yards if the foul happened more than that distance downfield. If it happened closer to the line of scrimmage, the ball goes to the spot of the foul. ... The NFL puts the ball at the 1-yard line for defensive PI in the end zone

Speaking of...

We got a safety there at the end. I thought a safety was followed by a free kick, not a regular kick off. When did that change?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think it's always been an option.

Kick it from a tee or punt it.

Folks always punt because a) onside kick makes no sense most of the time and b) easier to cover a punt due to more hang time control.

Not 100% certain on this but I do feel expertly right about now.

15 out or less, the PI in the endzone places it on the 2.
