Didn't we just have the Olympics in much more oppressive China? What about the upcoming summer Olympics in Brazil, where there have been mass protests connected with the corruption and taxes involved with preparing?

Just kind of weird that people are acting like Russia is the only place that's ever had problems connected with the Olympics.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think a lot of the problems come from people thinking Russia is more western and modern than it really is. Before I went over there, I thought it was going to be similar to western europe in many ways, but it isn't. Everything is on the verge of breaking and corruption is at a level I didn't even think possible.

Maybe people didn't expect what they are getting out of Russia, so the problems seem magnified.
