Three soccer teams from SC in Top 10 nationally

Jun 10, 2016, 8:19 PM

#4 River Bluff 24-1-0
#7 Bishop England 23-2-1
#8 Wando 26-2-0

River Bluff's only blemish was a regular season loss to Wando, but they were able to avenge that loss in the playoffs (somehow they met before the championship game).

BE split the two regular season meetings with Wando, and their only other loss came in the finals of the Nike Cup to Brookland-Cayce.

And if you're paying attention, you can guess Wando's only two losses.

Just thought some of you soccer haters would appreciate this...or at least respect it. Soccer may not be for everyone, but it's a sport that is well represented by our state, both in HS and in college.

And, for those who don't know, Clint Dempsey played at Furman, and USMNT starting goalie Brad Guzan went to USuC for year. But, it's a well-known fact that every keeper has a few screws loose.

I played some soccer in HS mainly to stay in shape for BB.
It's ok to play but sucks to watch .
I kid on here saying its for girls but it's a physical game.

Soccer has really grown in Mount Pleasant

Jun 10, 2016, 8:42 PM

The United Soccer Association (USA) Mount Pleasant - formerly SC United FC Mount Pleasant - is a very respected soccer club and difficult to make a top 2 tier level teams in each age group. My son was a good player in rec, but couldn't crack the top 2 tier roster. My daughter has played for them for 4 years and it is very competitive. This club feds many (if not most) of the players for Wando, Bishop England, and Academic Magnet. The boys U14 team is nationally ranked and undefeated.

Yep, SC United here in Columbia is nationally respected

Has numerous national elite teams and a top tier U-23. Largest program in the state with over 5000 kids. Many of the coaches and staff played professionally in Europe.

I guess since the rest of the world calls soccer football, so why not on here. And here I thought now that Baseball season was over we would have this straight. :)
