NCAA Invesitgation: Will UNC athletics be saved from a

big hit from the NCAA because the fake classes were open to all students, not just athletes?

UNC's accrediting body, The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, may be the biggest hammer to fear as far as being put on probation or possibly losing their accreditation.

In the real world losing your accreditation is a much bigger deal than any punishment the NCAA could ever dish out.

On the other hand, if these classes were created mainly to help athletes, they may be on the hook with SACS and the NCAA. Were they created mainly to help athletes?

If the classes were not mainly created to help athletes ...

... there certainly was a hugely disproportionate number of athletes taking advantage.

And honestly, when you create a totally fake group of classes at a presumed bastion of academic integrity it should make no difference if they were also available to non-athletes.

These were not just "easy" classes, they were totally fake classes. They allowed students (whether athletes or not) to remain in school and even gain degrees without having to do any work at all.

The fact that the vast majority of those enrolled in these fake classes were athletes makes it abundantly clear to all but the most blindly apologetic of Tar Heel loyalists that the sham curriculum was created to do exactly what it did ... bolster the athletic programs at UNC.

SACS is not ignoring it and if the NCAA does let it pass, what little is left of their credibility will be gone.

The current investigation that lasted a year too long is now null and void. We need another investigation that needs to be bigger which means it will take 4 years. This gives enough time for the students and faculty involved to retire or transfer before they get into any trouble. Since it will be an entirely new staff who had no connection to the wrong doings it would be unjust to punish them or the institution for a former employees mishandling of the situation. These guys are pros, probably the same people who helped Penn and Ohio St.

As soon as that $1 billion check clears the bank tonight--

Then the NCAA will produce the findings and penalties.

They have been waiting for the season to end . A billion is hard to come by, so a few more weeks isn't too much to ask
